Embrayage hydraulique.
Hydraulic clutch. The invention a. for object a hydraulic clutch of the type described in Swiss patent No 96030 in which the motor shaft carries at its end a box filled with oil or any other suitable liquid, in which are mounted radial cylinders fixed at its periphery by their bottom and in which work plungers actuated by an eccentric wedged at the end of the driven shaft, these plungers having longitudinal passages through which the oil is admitted in the cylinders directly .of the box by the gap existing between the active end of the plungers and the eccentric, clutch characterized by the fact that the oil is admitted. in the box through openings in the eccentric.
The appended drawing shows, by way of example, three embodiments of this object.
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section of a first form; Fig. 2 is an elevational view with part in cross section of this form; Fig. 3 is an elevational view, partially in cross section, of a second form, and FIG. 4 is a longitudinal section of a third embodiment.
In the first embodiment (fig. 1 and 2), 1 designates the motor shaft. This shaft ends in a flange, to which is fixed an oil box or casing 30 .in which are mounted radial cylinders 5, fixed by their bottom to the periphery of the box. 2 indicates the driven shaft, bearing, wedged at its end, an eccentric 3 which acts on pistons 4 which can move back and forth in the cylinders 5. The eccentric 3 is enclosed in an eccentric yoke 6, the outer surface of which is hexagonal in a manner in forming six sliding surfaces 7 convex in cross section dirty as shown in fig. 1.
These domed surfaces correspond to curved surfaces formed at the ends of the pistons and thus serve as rolling surfaces for these ends of the pistons during the isolated rotation of the shaft 1. At the center of each of these rolling surfaces 7 a light 8 is drilled: capable of communicating with holes 9 drilled in the axis of the pistons 4, and thus deforming a fluid passage under the pistons. These lights 8, during the. relative rotation of the clutch members, come alternately communicate with a groove 10 formed circularly in the edge of the eccentric.
This groove must not extend all around the eccentric, but must leave the solid portions 11 and 12 of sufficient width to form valves capable of closing the ports 8 for a determined period of the relative rotation of the limbs. of the clutch.
The groove 10 communicates by a light 13 with a cylindrical hole 14 in which a piston slide 15. This hole is drilled parallel to the axis of the clutch in the body of the eccentric 3; the, rod 17 of the spool 15 extends beyond the housing of the clutch and is connected outside the latter to an actuating sleeve 16, making it possible to actuate the spool 15 by its axial displacement on the shaft 2. This sleeve is grooved so that it can be controlled axially in the usual manner by any suitable lever mechanism.
The inner end of the hole 1.4, opening edge in the clutch housing, is con formed into a valve seat, so as to coo pères with a valve 18 formed at the end of the spool 15. The sleeve 16 is recalled. Clans its original position, at the same time that the valve 18 is maintained on this seat, by a return spring 19, which also maintains the spool 15 in its normal position, that is to say with. the light 13 opening into the annular space between the. solid portion of the spool 15 and the end valve 18, around the reduced diameter portion or stem of the spool.
The eccentric yoke 6 is provided with piston return members having the form of polygonal flanges 31 provided with repelled portions 32, which cooperate with shoulders 34 (fig. 1) carried by the pistons 4. These flanges control the trifugal strokes. pistons, the centripetal races being controlled directly by the. pressure of the sliding surface 7 of the eccentric yoke 6 against the end of the piston, as described in the mentioned Swiss patent. In the drawing two flanges 31 are shown arranged one on each side of the eccentric yoke 6 and interconnected by bolts 35. The bearing surfaces between the flanges 31 and the shoulders 34 are spherical or conical to facilitate the alignment and to prevent the. rotation of the pistons on their axis.
The clutch reversing is obtained automatically, that is to say that, depending on the direction of rotation of the clutch, the intake space between the hexagonal yoke 6 and the pistons 4 s' opens during the suction stroke and closes during the compression stroke. In the reverse step, the pressures take place on the other face of the eccentric and a flat passage 20. Is made on this face of the eccentric to lead through a passage 22 (fig. 2) to the hole 1.4. This passage 22 opens into the hole 14 and into the left groove or portion of reduced diameter of the drawer 15, in the same way as the passage 13 of the compression groove opens into the hole 14 and the groove or diameter portion reduced right of valve 15.
Reverse gear is obtained in the same way, both in reverse clutch mechanisms having bridges 50 and in those which do not have a point 50 formed between the two opposing grooves 10. However, in cases where it is only necessary to have a reversal (slow operation, as for example in the clutch mechanisms of motor vehicles, when one provides for such a bridge, one cannot have only one groove 10, as shown in Fig. 2.
Excessive pressures in the cylinders from any cause, such as overload, are prevented by a safety valve. arranged in a suitable or verture (not shown in: drawing communicating with a passage (not shown) leading to the cylinders. This valve may be a spring return ball, or a differential valve. A similar safety valve may be provided on the crankcase, as close to the center as possible, to prevent excess pressure, due to oil expansion, from occurring in the crankcase.
In order to ensure that the oil reaches the inlet ports or openings provided in the. eccentric yoke, and to prevent air from being sucked into the cylinders when the. The quantity of oil in the crankcase is too low to completely cover these orifices during operation of the clutch, plates for evacuating 25: are provided on: each side of the eccentric and extend over the sides of the cylinders almost to their iron end. These plates have the form of discs drilled in the center of a hole large enough to allow. shaft 2 to cross them freely. They are fixed by flange rings 27.
These plates 25, at their inner periphery, function as liquid seals with respect to the eccentric faces or, to the equivalent parts, in such a way that, during the suction time of the piston, the oil in the crankcase 30 is sucked. from the oil source near the periphery of the spreader to the edge of the discs 25 and thence to the cylinder inlet ports.
The oil in the crankcase 30, serving to fuel the cylinders, is also used to lubricate the friction surfaces of the clutch. As the oil pressure on the faces of the cylindrical valve varies proportionally to the speed of the trailing shaft, the bearings of the eccentric shaft are subjected to. the same fluid pressure, which is constantly directed over part of the periphery of the bearings. In order to counterbalance this pressure on the bearings, an opening (not shown) is made in the body. eccentric.
The groove 10 is divided by a part forming a bridge 50, provided with an opening 51 normally closed on the side where the pressure acts, by a valve 52 held on this opening by a spring 53. The axis 54 of this valve can slide. in a suitable opening in a console 55, which is fixed by means of a screw 56 to the eccentric. In an appropriate position is formed the passage 13 communicating the passage 14 and the portion of the groove 10 containing the valve. The bridge 50 serves to prevent yield losses and also to prevent any loss which may occur if the lumen 8 covers the end of the groove 10, through wear or as a result of any other cause, before the opening. when the spider has pushed the piston so as to bring it into contact with the eccentric yoke 6.
Such a loss of efficiency may be due to the fact that the cylinders are not fully filled, during the suction stroke, due to the very high flow velocity, when the valve partially opens. In such a case, after each cylinder has passed neutral, it acts on the pressure groove. If it is assumed that one of the cylinders is only three quarters full, then the other cylinders having the passages connected to the pressure groove, will slow down until this cylinder is completely filled. .
Bridge 50 and check valve 52 prevent this from happening except in quite extreme cases. If, on the other hand, the cylinders are completely filled during the suction stroke, it is necessary to have a passage made through the bridge to allow these cylinders to be able to discharge freely if the. main valve is open to control the clutch.
To prevent key air from passing from the center of the housing into the passages. fluid leading to both ends of the valve hole formed in the eccentric, and thereby impeding the free flow of oil through the valve-controlled passages, holding valves can be provided. Two of these valves indicated at 60 and 61 are shown in fig. 1. The valve 60 is disposed on the inlet port 62 leading, in the passage 14 formed dans.le, body: of the eccentric yoke.
This valve has the form of a ring 63, the valve proper 60 being fixed to the side of the ring and being held on the lumen 62 by means of a spring 64 mounted on a rod 65 on the opposite side of the ring. the ring, between the inner face of the latter and the periphery of the eccentric shaft 2.
The air valve 61 is fixed to one end of a flat spring plate 66, the other end of which is fixed, by means of screws, to the. lateral face of the eccentric yoke. To prevent lateral thrust, due to hydraulic pressure on the shaft, directed towards the open or removable end of the housing, a cup is attached to the shaft and extends radially in a direction opposite to the eccentric yoke. . This bowl is arranged so as to press against the interior surface of the cover.
The clutch mechanism may be provided with a fluctuation device preferably consisting of a spring loaded plunger, the end of which opens towards the pressurized fluid passage formed in the eccentric. This device can be placed in a hole 70 formed at the end of the shaft 2 and communicating by a passage 71 with the passage 13. The plunger 72 has the form of a cylindrical cover matching the shape of the hole 70. and containing one of the ends of a spring 73, bearing at its other end in a threaded plug 74 screwed to the end of the shaft 2.
It is easy to see, by examining the lower half of fig. 1, that the main operations of the clutch are the same as those described with regard to the clutch which is the subject of Swiss patent No. 96030. The admission to the opening 8 is made through the space formed . between the curved sliding surfaces 7 of the. eccentric yoke 6 and the lower ends of the pistons 4.
The operation in the case of the variant shown fi-. 3, comprising sliding faces constantly in contact, is also described in the patent application cited above.
In this form of non-reversible clutch mechanism, the passage 20 has the shape of a circular groove formed on the opposite edge of the eccentric 3, with respect to that in which the groove 10 is formed. This groove 20 is more short than the groove 10. In groove side 20 is fixed a metal strip, curved 21, arranged so as to form a drawer which covers the slots 8, and, in this way, prevents air from entering the cylinders during the. suction stroke.
Excessive pressure in the cylinders is prevented by a safety valve, arranged in a suitable passage (not shown) communicating with a passage 23 which leads to the cylinders.
In order to counterbalance the pressure on the bearing surfaces, a passage 40 (FIG. 4) is made in the body of the eccentric. This wise pitch is connected by an opening to the passages containing pressurized oil, and also by passages 41 and 42 to recessed portions 43 and 44 formed on the opposite side of the bearing surfaces so as to effect a counter- pressure on these.
