Le fermoir de sûreté 'représenté destiné<B>à</B> fermer une chaîne se compose d'un anneau<B>à</B> ressort<B>1</B> -de construction connue, mais tra versé suivant un diamètre par un cran d'ar rêt en forme d'une tige 2; cette tige est fixée, <B>à</B> l'une de ses extrémités, par soudure, par exemple<B>à</B> l'anneau<B>1,</B> près -de l'ouverture<B>-A</B> servant d'entrée<B>à</B> la partie mobile<B>1"</B> de lan- neau <B>à</B> ressort, -du côté opposé<B>à</B> celui où se trouve la, poussette<B>3.</B>
Ainsi qu'il vient d!être indiqué, la tige 2 n'est fixée qu'à une de ses extrémités. Pour mettre l'anneau extrême 4<B>à</B> la place qu'il doit occuper, afin de fermer la chaîne, on l'introduit par l'ouverture B pour le faire glisser -d'abord sur la tige 2, puis sur l'an neau<B>à</B><I>ressort</I><B>1</B> en ouvrant, au moyen de la poussette<B>3,</B> la paxtie mobile<B>1"</B> du-dit anneau <B>à</B> ressort, partie mobile qu'on referme dès que Fanneau 4 a<B>été</B> engagé dans l'anneau<B>à</B> res sort,<U>-comme,</U> l'indique la figure.
Ladite tige empêche l'anneau extrême de la chaîne<B>de</B> s'échapper même si l'anneau<B>à</B> ressort souvre accidentellement par suite de mauvais fonctionnement, de détérioration ou d'usure.
Pour ouvrir la -chaîne, il suffit d'en libérer l'extrémité en ramena-nt l'anneau 4 sur la tige 2, puis de sortir ledit anneau par l'ou verture B. La, tige 2 formant cran d'arrêt dont il vient d'être parlé peut être droite, ,comme sur la figure, ou plus ou moins courbe; ce cran -darrêt pourrait aussi affecter une for-me de crochet plus ou moins arrondi. La pointe de la tige, lorsque celle-ci est courbe, ou celle du trothet, peut être dirigée dans -ap sens ou dans l'autre.

La, rod 2 forming a stopper which it has just been spoken can be straight, as in the figure, or more or less curved; this stopper could also affect a more or less rounded hook shape.
