Process for increasing the strength, elongation and hardness of zinc alloys, especially for sand casting.
According to the previously common methods of increasing the strength and hardness of zinc alloys cast in sand cast iron. z. B. zinc copper alloys or zinc aluminum alloys, a strength of only 18 to 20 kg per square millimeter has generally been achieved. Attempts have also been made to achieve higher values for the production of the casting mold by using materials that conduct heat, such as hammer blows, Tiupferoxyd etc., alone or mixed with sand, with the alloying or segregation of the alloy as it solidifies in the mold up to was prevented to some extent.
In this way, healthy cast bodies were achieved, but not increased strength and elongation, as the slow cooling of the mold and the cast body produced crystal formations due to the high heat of fusion of the metals in question.
The present invention now relates to a method by means of which a specific strength of 25 kg per square millimeter at 5% elongation and a specific weight of 2.85 is achieved with bodies cast in sand and by means of which a strength of 30 to 35 kg per Square millimeters at 0.5 to 1% elongation and a specific weight of 2.956 to 3.00, as well as an increased hardness corresponding to this increase is achieved, whereby the usability of the zinc alloys is much more diverse.
The process is carried out in such a way that the known zinc alloys contain a misch metal, e.g. B. a mixture composed of metals from different metal groups is added. For example, a zinc-aluminum alloy is advantageously mixed with a mixed metal made of heavy metals such as nickel, iron, chromium, etc., which also has earth metals, e.g. B. Magnesium, can be added.
After alloying with the mischmetal, the zinc alloy is then poured into a sand casting mold at a specific casting temperature between 600 and 1000; After being removed from the mold, the cast is tempered for two to three hours at 300 to 350 ° C and then slowly cooled.
The casting mold itself is manufactured in sand in a manner known per se, but copper pebbles and graphite are expediently added to this sand prior to manufacturing the casting mold.
A sand casting of an aluminum zinc alloy produced according to the above-described method has previously known corresponding sand casting alloys compared to 80 to 100% greater strength.
