Abstract
Most of the dangerous accidents occur during the head on collisions of vehicles from the front or the rear. The Bumpers are designed to take impact loading but in most of the cases the impact from the bumpers is transmitted to the vehicle body and to the occupants. To reduce the impact on the vehicle body and its occupants various designs of bumpers have been tried out including special materials and flexing of bumpers. Yet the extent of damage to the vehicles and injuries of occupants have not been drastically reduced.
The Enhanced Vehicle Safety Bumper (referred to as ESVB, in short) consists of a double walled Bumper design with compression springs in between. The design, rating, size, selection and number of compression springs is such that the entire impact load transmitted during a collision would be absorbed by the compression springs via the outer bumper wall.
The outer bumper wall would be the first to face the impact load and it would transfer the same to the compression springs. The compression springs are designed to absorb two opposite forces (both the vehicles in the accident) and would compress and deflect under load such that there would be none or minimal load transmission of impact to the inner bumper wall which is attached to the vehicle frame. Thus the collision load/impact is not transmitted to the vehicle body and hence the occupants of the vehicle The above design would cause minimal damage to the vehicle as well as to its occupants during any accident or collision saving immense cost due to vehicle damage or injuries to the occupants of the vehicle.
At this stage only the front and rear bumpers will be designed according to the above scheme.
At a later date the same scheme will be utilized for the sides of the vehicle, keeping aesthetic aspects of the vehicle intact.

Description
3. DISCLOSURE:
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR REDUCING IMPACT ON VEHICLE
AND OCCUPANTS DURING VEHICLE COLLISSIONS
Background of Invention:
During the collision/accidents of vehicles most of the impact is transferred to the vehicle body and the occupants via the bumpers. This leads to an immense loss financially due to vehicle repair costs and to injuries or loss of life of the occupants of the vehicle.
This invention aims at drastically reducing the impact transferred during a collision to the vehicle body and the occupants and thus considered as an effort towards safety of the occupants and reducing the costs involved consequent to the collision.
