Abstract

Selon ce procédé, on soumet conjointement le ménisque du métal liquide présent dans la lingotière à l'action d'un champ électromagnétique alternatif axial tendant à lui conférer une forme générale en dôme et à l'action d'un champ magnétique continu transversal destiné à calmer l'agitation superficielle du ménisque.
L'installation de mise en oeuvre comprend une lingotière (1) à plaques assemblées refroidies (2,3 et 4,5) pour la coulée de brames métalliques, une bobine à courant alternatif (17) entourant la lingotière au niveau de ménisque (12) de métal liquide pour produire un champ magnétique axial, colinéaire à l'axe de coulée (11), et un inducteur à champ magnétique continu traversant les grandes plaques de la lingotière au niveau du ménisque (12) perpendiculairement à l'axe de coulée.
