Abstract
Safety feature for a rappelling device for securing persons, animals and articles, provided with a fixed guide member (2) and a movable buckle (3) which in its idle state is seated in an L-shaped recess (4) of the fixed guide member (2) such that it engages in parallel a base plate (1) supporting the guide member (2).
Description
SECURITY SYSTEM FOR RAPPELLING DEVICE
The invention relates to a safety feature for a rappelling device for securing persons, animals and articles which are to be roped down by means of the rappelling or crash device from buildings of any kind, as well as from rock walls, trees and the like, be it in connection with a rescue operation or in connection with the rendition of safe working conditions.
It is an object of the invention to provide a safety feature which is of simpie construction and which may be mounted with ease. The safety feature in accordance with the invention is characterized by a fixed guide member and a movable buckle which in an idle condition is seated in an L-shaped recess of the fixed guide member such that it is in parallel engagement with a base plate which supports the guide member.
In accordance with the invention, the movable buckle may, if necessary, by a slight lateral force be moved into the deeper cut-out of the L-shaped recess in the fixed guide member and rotated by 90 relative to the fixed guide member for immediate use.
When the buckle, prior to being pivoted by 90 into its operative position, is secured in its idle position parallel to the base plate the safety feature has a maximum thickness of 12 - 15 mm and may thus be mounted without any difficulty and without any possibility of causing injury into wall openings (windows and door openings).
An embodiment of the invention will hereinafter be described with reference to the drawings. Fig. 1 is a top elevational view of a base plate;
Fig. 2a is a top elevational view of a guide member; Fig. 2b is a sectional view of the guide member and Fig. 3 is a top elevational view of a buckle.
The safety feature for a rappelling device (not shown) consists of three components made of stainless steel, viz.: a base plate 1, a fixed guide member 2 having a cut-out recess 4 of L-shaped cross-section, and a movable buckle 3.
The base plate 1, together with the fixed guide member 2, is mounted on a wall (not shown) or the like by means of screws 5, while the movable buckle 3 is disposed between the base plate I and the guide member 2. The base plate I ensures that the movable buckle 3 may slide unimpededly to and fro in parallel relative to the base plate 1. As seen in Fig. 2a, the movable buckle 3, in its idle state, is set in an L-shaped cut-out recess 4 in the guide member such that it is disposed in parallel with respect to the base plate 1.
When required, the buckle 3 is moved by a slight lateral force into the deeper cut-out of the recess 4, drops downwardly, pivots 90 and, as seen in Fig. 2b, is immediately rendered operative ready to receive a component, e.g. a karabiner, of the rappelling device. Following use, the buckle 3 may be returned to its idle position simply by sliding and pivoting by 90 .

Claims (2)
1. Safety feature for a rappelling device for securing persons, animals and articles, characterized by the fact that it is provided with a fixed guide member (2) and a buckle (3) which in its idle state is seated in an L-shaped recess (4) of the fixed guide member (2) such that it engages in parallel a base plate (1) supporting the guide member (2)
2. Feature of claim 1, characterized by the fact that when necessary the movable buckle (3) may by slight lateral pressure be moved into a deeper cut-out of the L-shaped recess (4) in the fixed guide member (2), pivoted by 90° relative to the fixed guide member (2) and rendered immediately operational.
