Abstract

A new Up and Down Traveling Concrete Form makes a considerable improvement in the art of building Hi-Rise concrete structures.
There is no need to set up and dismantle for each new operation. The Traveling Form builds all the vertical elements of the structure on the way up and all the horizontal slabs on the way down with only one set-up and only one dismantle operation. It is self supporting up to twenty floors and self powered.

Inventor George Simeonoff 191 King Str. M9N 1 L8 Toronto Ont.
Summery of the invention:
A Platform-Bulkhead used to form the Suspended Floors is solidly framed with the vertical Column Forms which are passing through it at 90 degrees and are protruding downwards like table legs.
When the Bulkhead is lifted simultaneously with heavy mechanical Jacks the whole unit moves up and down like a "piston." On the way up the Column Forms are used as "Slip-Forms" or" Extruders"
to cast the Columns and on the way down ,starting with the roof, the Bulkhead Platform is used to cast the floor slabs one after another to the ground floor.
Advantages:
1.Only one operation of "putting together" and "taking apart" of the forms is needed to form all the floors.
2.The newly cast slabs are not used as working and supporting platforms for the slabs above and less shoring and curing time is required.
3. Less weather protection is needed because after the roof slab all subsequent floors are protected from rain and snow.
4. If no tower-crane is available it is feasible to build with a material elevator 5.Dramatic savings in time and labour.

Confidential Page 2 26/11/2001 Background of the Invention;
The evolution of the art for building concrete structures passes trough an endless variety of systems and methods. The specific characteristics of the concrete- the liquidity and ability to take any shape during casting and the short period thereafter to solidify ,the weight the strength and endurance in time of the material have inspired millions to creative design with concrete.
The new" Up and Down" Traveling Form for Concrete Structures attempts to add to the existing art Another practical way of forming concrete and so render the strength, durability and fireproof qualities of concrete more attractive to the market.
Concrete material is in abundance throughout the world ,it has low energy requirement can be easily recycled, it is without negative health effects and it is environmentally friendly.
The invention is a combination of column forms and floor stabs form in one unit.
In a building where all supporting columns are at 90 degrees to the horizontal floors and the variation In the level of the floors is within 150mm.,The "Up and Down Traveling Form"
can be used with advantage.
The newly cast columns are not used to support anything until cast to the top of the building.
A hi-early concrete can develop sufficient strength in 4 hours to carry its own weight.
The Bulkhead Platform together with the weight of the Column Forms Is being lifted and supported by heavy mechanical Jacks and steel pipe columns .The number of lifting jacks and pipe columns is proportional to the floor area of the building. The bulkhead and the Lifting pipe columns are horizontally trussed to minimise lateral deflection CA 02363859 2001-11-26 _ - ,. . .- _ _ .
Confidential Page 3 26/11/2001 Detailed Description of the invention: Installation and Operation. See Sk.#1 and#2.
On preinstalled Footings with Anchor-Bars #12 the Lifting Jacks #5 are lowered and anchored In their precise location. The Column Forms #1 with the Bulkhead Trusses#2 can be pre-assembled and lowered onto the Lifting Jacks #5 by a crane or lowered down in parts and put together in their place manually. The Starter Jack-Pipes3a ( both ends female) are loaded into the Lifting Jacks #5 and pushed upwards until engaged and locked into the Truss Header #2a. The Reinforcing Cages#13 with pre-installed Column Recess Inserts #9 are lowered down in the Column Forms #1 and fastened below to the anchoring bars of Footing #12. The Column Forms#1 are extended down to the bearing surface of Footings#15. The Columns are filled with concrete and properly vibrated. Now the Platform Joists #10 and the Deck Plywood #11 are installed and the Safety Railing #8 at the end. At this point The Form is ready to start moving upwards and slip-forming the Columns . The Jack-Pipes#3 are loaded into the Lifting Jacks#5 and fastened together with Loek-Pins#4a and every 4 -5 hours The Bulkhead is moved upwards one pipe-length at a lime, new concrete is poured, the Reinforcing Cages#13 with the Column Recess Inserts #9 are stacked and spliced on top of the previous ones by observing the Column Recess inserts to coincide with the floor slabs elevations. The cycle is repeated until the roof slab is reached. Here the slip-forming operation is completed and all columns completed. Curing time is allowed and the downward travel of form can start with the casting of the slabs can starts from the roof down. The Platform surtace could be covered with thin plastic film for light separation.
Sk.#1 shows the plan of a square bulkhead platform with 4 Column Forms #1 and 5 Bulkhead Trusses#2 with part of the Platform Joists #10 and Platform Ply-Wood #11 installed. A side view Gf the form is shown loaded on 2 Lifting Jacks mounted and anchored no Footings #12 .Another Side-view . in smaller scale, shows a raised up form without build up columns to demonstrate The independent structure of the" Up and Down Traveling Form".
Sk. #2 Are details showing items #3, #3a, #4,#4a and #9 from Sk.#1.
