Abstract
La présente invention concerne un système sur réseau (30) de traitement de données multimédia. Un serveur, de préférence un groupe de serveurs (20, 22, 24), est couplé au réseau, chacun d'eux incorporant un jeu d'outils multimédia (34) ou moteur multimédia qui permet de créer, d'éditer, d'afficher et de gérer des objets multimédia, par exemple des fichiers, comprenant au moins une partie sous une des formes suivantes: vidéo, images, son et animation. Chaque serveur est équipé d'une mémoire pour le stockage d'objets multimédia. Un client (30), de préférence un ordinateur personnel et, de préférence, une pluralité de clients, ayant accès au réseau incorporent chacun une interface de montage multimédia (32), de préférence une interface d'utilisateur graphique (GUI), qui permet au client d'envoyer au serveur, via le réseau, des commandes de traitement multimédia sélectionnées dans un ensemble prédéfini de commandes de traitement multimédia. Un client peut, de préférence, envoyer une série de commandes à la fois et, dans un groupe de plusieurs clients, chaque client peut envoyer des commandes à exécuter sur le même objet. Le moteur multimédia de chaque serveur répond aux commandes de traitement multimédia reçues d'un ou plusieurs clients en exécutant les opérations de traitement correspondantes sur les objets multimédia préalablement stockés par un client dans la mémoire du serveur, et le serveur met à la disposition des clients, sur le réseau, les objets multimédia traités.
