Abstract

Selon cette invention, on divise en blocs rectangulaires un champ de données image vidéo, destiné à être codé par compression. On compare (130) chacun des blocs rectangulaires à un bloc correspondant (131) d'une image de référence pour générer des données de comparaison. Si les données de comparaison pour le bloc satisfont au critère sélectionné, le bloc de l'image à coder est sélectionné pour représentation. On génère des données de mappage indiquant les lieux dans le plan d'image qui correspondent aux blocs sélectionnés. L'image à coder est représentée sous une forme comprimée par des données en-tête (106), des données de mappage (108) et des données d'image représentatives des blocs sélectionnés. Lorsque l'image de référence est codée par compression (206), les blocs peuvent être développés dans les zones de l'image de référence qui correspondent à une densité d'informations peu élevée.
