Abstract

L'invention concerne un procédé et un dispositif de séparation thermique de charges (11) hétérogènes permettant de produire un produit métallique, un produit en vitrocéramique et un produit gazeux. Le procédé comprend la possibilité de soumettre à un traitement thermique des déchets dangereux, tels que définis par la Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), ces déchets contenant également dans certains cas des radio-isotopes (déchets mixtes, tels que définis par le Department of Energy), ainsi que la production, grâce à ce traitement, de produits stables de longue durée de vie. Plus particulièrement, cette invention concerne un procédé et un dispositif permettant de traiter un flux d'alimentation entrant (9) de nature très hétérogène en ce qui concerne sa forme physique, sa combustibilité, sa composition chimique et la taille de ses particules, et contaminé, à des concentrations variables, par des composants dangereux et/ou des radio-isotopes. Le traitement se fait dans un creuset de fusion à l'arc (4) en courant continu à électrode graphite, présentant un réacteur (5) d'oxydation thermique contigu destiné à la production de produits métalliques, de produits en vitrocéramique de type basaltique et d'effluents gazeux entièrement brûlés. Le dispositif décrit présente une configuration (17) d'extinction rapide d'effluents gazeux destinée à réduire la formation de dioxine, et à faciliter ainsi la décontamination des effluents gazeux.
