Abstract

A method is described for labeling containers (22, 30 and 44) with a label (12, 32 and 40) that facilitates a de-labeling process.
During the labeling process, a frangible region (34 and 42) is formed on the label (12, 32 and 40) which is then applied to containers (22, 30 and 44). After consumer use, the labeled containers (22, 30 and 44) are collected for de-labeling. In the de-labeling process, a mechanical force is applied to the frangible region (34 and 42) which causes the label (12, 32 and 40) to flag outwardly from the container (22, 30 and 44). A separating device then removes the label (12, 32 and 40) from the container (22, 30 and 44). The de-labeled container (22, 30 and 44) may then be cleaned for reuse and provided with a fresh label.
