Abstract

An anti-theft device for automated teller machine (A.T.M.) comprises a cross-member to which the A.T.M. is attached by bolts and a bracket. The bracket is bolted to the supporting floor, and the cross-member is attached direct to the bracket by bolts. The construction provides a very low profile support for the A.T.M. which will resist attack for a substantial period of time.

~ ~RODUCTI ON

The present invention relate~ to a~ anti-th~ft devlce which ~s p~rticul~rly suited for u~ w~th automat~d teller ~achine~ (A.T.M.'~), ~ACRGROUND

In GB-A-2 268 541 we ~e~cri~ an anti-theft device which i~ particularly suited for insta~l~tion with the HARRISON (~rade mark) fr~me whl~h ~upports a~ A.T.M.
Thi~ anti-th~ft devlce ~llows limited ~ove~e~t ~etween the par~ of ~he devioe which are fitted re~pectively to ths floor and to the A.T.M. Such a cons~ruction i~ not ~ted to low-le~el A. ~. M. in6ta~1ation~ in wh~ch the bass of the A.T.M i8 6upported very c~ 08e to ths ~loor -because there ic not ~fficient room for the different frame members.

We hav~ now found, unexpectedly, ~hat a ~impl~r const~uction of anti-theft device may ~8 used with low-level A. T. M. lnstallatlon~ and stil~ provide sufficient t$me to reslst an a~tac~ on th~ A.T.M.

SUMMARY 0~ THE INV !N~10N

Accordin~ly, the present inventio~ provide~ a supporting frame for an au~omated t~ller machine (A.T.M.). The f~ame compri~e~ a cro~-me~er to which t~e A.T.M. can be ~ecured, ~nd a bracket for secu~ing the C~0~8 ~sm~er to the ~loor.

Pxe~erably a pair of sub~tsntially parallel ~ro~-members are provided, and brackets are po~itioned at the oppo~ite ends of the cro~s-members.

Side plates are preferably p~ovide~ to pxevent the entry of ~ork lift truc}c tine~, or the l~ke, in~o ~hs space bslow the A.T.M.

~ery preferably, the cross-member 18 ~scured to the ~acket by a bolt whlch i5 received in ~n elon~ate 610t in ~he cross-mem~er or bracket, ~llowing only ~ery limitsd vertical ~ovement be~ween the cros~-member and br~cke~.

Ths A. T. M. can be mounted directly on t~e ~u~port~ng f~^ame, without the need for the ~arxi~on fra~e.

{)ESCRIPTIO~ OF ~HE PREFERRE~ EMBODIMENTS

Referring in particular to Figuxe 2, the ~nti-~heft device 2 compri~s a pai~ of cross-members 4 in the form of ~teel beam~ 6 whi~h are 20 ~m thick ~y 150 ~ wlde.
The length of ~he cro~s-~embe~s 4 i8 chosen to ~ui~ a particul~r ~ake of A.~.M. End pl~tes are welded to the opposite ends of the beam~ 6 and have fix~ng eyes 10 provided ~o each 51de of the bea~ 6.

The c~o~s-~embers 4 are ~olted by bolts 14 ~o right angle brackets 1~ w~lch ~re $ixed to the floor 16 by ~73~ 2~

expandlng bolt~ 18 pas~lng through the ho~zontal flanges 12b. The flanges ~2~ a~e direct~ lnwards to l~y under the A. T. M. 20, prsventin~ acce~ to the bo~ ts 18 on~e the. A. 'r. M. i~ ln~talled.

The bolts 1~ are located in vertically elongate hole6 28 ln the upright w~115 12a of the brackets 12. The el~ngate holes 28 allo~ for a limited amount of helght ~d~u~t~ent and levelling of the cross -me~berE 4.

A~ A. T. ~. 20, æhow~ ln dotted outline i~ æupport~3d on a 6 mm thick ~teel plate 2~ w~ich i~ attached to ths cr~s6-me~nbex~ 4 by four }:olts 2~. The A. T. M. ~ æ secured to the cros~-memberæ 4 by hlgh tensile steel ~olts 24 which paæ~ through the ~aæe o~ the A.T.M. and the underlying ~teel plate ~2 and the bealns 6.

~eferri~ to Figure 3, a ~umber of ~ild s~eel p~cking ~lates 30 are illustrated for ad~u~ing the hei~ht of ~he A.T.M~ - which typically must ~atch a wall ope~ing.
A mild ~teel cover plat~ 32 haæ elongate ~lot~ 34 whi~;h ~traddle the bo~ts 14. Cover plate 32 i~ sandwiched between the brackets 1~ and cros s -~ember 4 and æ erves to cover lifting 610ts which are typlca~ly provlded at the b~se of ~he A.T.M. 20 for li~ting by A fork lift truck.
Other cover plate~ 35 ar~3 secured to the ~ide~ parallel ~_i 73522 to the cros~-member 4 by angled ~rackets 36 and ~crews (not B hown).

A further layer of mild ~t~e} plat~ 38 18 ~andwiched between ~he cover plate~ 32 and brac~cets 12, and corresponding outer side plate~ 40 are secu~ed to these by brac)c~3~s ~2 and screws 44.

Peco~ative l~minated cover6 46 are clipped over the head~ of the bo~s 14.

In use, the two bracket~ 12 are ~cursd to th~ floor 16 by the expanding bolts 18. The ~olts 18 pre~srably are secured to a pred~rmined torque - which will indioate that th~ floor has sufficient integxity to resi~t pulling on the bolts 18. The cover plates 34,38 and t~e cro~fi-menlbeI~ ~ are then ~?o~itioned between the uprights 12a of the brackets 12 and fixed directly to ths b~ac~e~s ~y the bolt~ 14.

The supporting plate 22 iæ ~crewed to the b~ams 6 a~d ~he~ the A. T. M. 20 is lowered into poæi~ion ~n the supporti~g plat~ 22 and ~ecured to the bsam~ 6 by the ~olt6 ~4.

Th~ qide cover p~at~ 34,40 a~d the de~orativs cover~ ~6 2~73~ ~2 are then fixed in position.

The over~ll he~ght o the frame 1~ dlctated by the flan~e6 12~ and ~he~e are preferably le66 than 100~ ~
high, and typlcally 7Smm, to allow an overall frame height of le88 than lOOmrn.

~he closene~ of the A.T.~. 20 ~o the floor 16 1nhib~s the leverage that can be appl~ed w~en any atte~pt iB
made to re~ove the A.T.M. 20 forcibly.

When greater h~ght i~ requirad, ~o~ exa~ple up to abou~
300mm a modi fied crc~s~ -member 4' can be u~ed and ths~ iq illu~trated in Figure ~. ~rh~ cross-men~ber 4~ h~ an angled sec~lon 6~ welded to e~d plate~ 8~ wh~ch hav~
~lot6 10' ~ox re~eiving the bclts 14.

The ~ide plate~ 35, 40, 32, 38 may also ~e lncre~ed 1~
he~ ght, and the upright walls 12a of ~he braoket~ 12 may extend higher.
