Abstract
This invention refers to a device for bringing about the closure or the opening of the mouth of a doll, this device being composed of two rigid arms which pass through the corresponding mounting neck flange of the head and body of the doll, these two arms being separated by a spring placed between them within the cavity of the body of the doll itself, while the part of their length within the head incorporates an axis for rotation at the end of the fixed arm to permit a first lever to swing, this lever being articulated at one end in the said axis, while the opposite end is joined to the upper lip of the mouth of the doll, this said lever being equipped with a slot approximately half way along its length, in which a pin moves, this pin being joined to the end of a second lever affixed to the swinging arm and articulated with this at an axis for the swinging of both, such that pressure and the corresponding swinging thrust towards the fixed arm brings about the swinging of the first lever and the displacement of the lower lip downwards, closing the mouth, or upwards, in which second case the opening of the mouth is increased.

A D~VICE FOR CLOSING AND OPENING THE MOUTH OF A DOLL
The invention refers to a device for bringing about the closure or the opening of the mouth of a doll, this device being activated by manual pressure on a part of the body of the doll, ~uch as the chest, giving rise to the swinging of certain levers, one of which has its free end joined to the upper lip of the doll's mouth, such that when the said lever swings upwards or downwards, the mouth opens or closes, respectively.
More specifically, the device envisaged is composed of two rigid arms which pass through the corresponding mounting neck flange of the head of the doll, these tWQ
arms being mainly located within the cavity of the body, under the head itself, while the rest, that is, a small part or upper length of the said arms remain held within the inside of the head.
One of the arms is fixed, while the other is able to swing in a direction towards the one in front, although it is kept separate from this by a spring that is interposed between them.
At the end of the fixed arm, and corresponding to that part of the same which is located wlthin the head, another lever is articulated, this being equipped with a slot at approximately its mid point, and which at its other end, which is considered free, i9 joined to the upper lip of the mouth of the doll. In the slot referred to above a pin is held, which is equipped with a second lever at its end which is joined to the mobile or swinging arm, this and thi~ ~econd lever being able to swing with respect to a common axis. A fixed element holds the lower lip immobile.
Therefore, when pres~ure is applied on the area of the body of the doll in which the swinging arm is located, the thrust exerted on thi~ against the action of the spring which keep~ it separated from the fixed arm, causes thi~ to swing and with this the swinging of the lever a~sociated ~16763~
with the same, making the pin within thi~ to move within the ~lot of the articulated lever to the fixed arm, ~uch that depending on the orientation of the ~lot within the said lever a ~winging motion in a downwards direction i~
prod~ced (closing the mouth of the doll) or upward~
(opening the moutn) as the lip will be drawn towards the~e position~ by the end of the lever, when it swings.
Complementary to the description given below, and with the aim of helping towards better understanding of the features of the invention, a detailed de~cription based on a ~et of plans enclosed with this specification will be - given as an integral part of the same, and in which and merely as a guideline and not as a limitation the following have been shown:

Figure 1 shows a cross sectional side elevation view of the head of the doll with the device of the invention.
Figure 2 ~hows the same device as that of the first figure, arranged to bring about a wide opening of the mouth when activated.
In the ~aid figures, the references corre~pond to:
1.- The head of the doll.
2.- The head mounting neck flange (1).
3.- Fixed arm.
4.- Swinging arm.
5.- A ~pring located between the arm~ (3) and (4).
6.- Axi~ of articulation of the lever (7).
7.- Lever.
8.- The free end of the lever (7).
9.- De~cending slot on the lever (7).
9 ' . - A~cending 910t on the lever (7).
9 ' . - A~cending 910t on the lever (7).
10.- The pin that moves within the slot (9 or 9').
11.- Second lever joined to the ~winging arm (4).
12.- Articulation shared by the lever (11) and arm (4).
13.- Element or fixed arm joined to the lower lip.
~1~7S38 14.- The free end of the element or fixed arm (13).
According to and as may be seen in the said figures, the device covered by the invention is applicable to dolls and is mounted specifically in the head (1), this being coupled to the neck flange (2) through which this head (1) is joined to the corresponding body of the doll.
The device of the invention~ is compri~ed in the first place of a pair of rigid arms (3) and (4), which pass through the neck flange (2), one of them being joined to this neck flange (2) and which is to be consider~d to be a fixed arm (3), while the other arm (4) is mounted in such a manner that it may swing toward~ the other arm (3) and return to its initial position by means of a ~pring (5) that is located between the two and which tends to keep arm (4) separated from the other fixed arm (3).
The greater part of the length of the said arms (3) and ~4) remain below the neck flange (2), and are therefore located within the cavity of the body of the doll, specifically corresponding to the area which is at the height of the chest. The remaining parts of the said arms (3) and (4), after pa~sing through the neck flange (2) are located within the cavity of the head (1).
Over the upper end of the fixed arm (3), this end corresponding to that which is located within the head (1), an axis is mounted (6) within which the end of a lever (7) moves, the other or free end of which (8) is joined to the upper lip of the mouth of the doll. The said lever (7) has a slot (9) located approximately half way down its length, it being possible to incline thi~.~lot downward~, as may be seen in figure 1, or may be inclined upwards as is shown in figure 2, in which case the ~lot is shown with reference number (9').
A pin (10) belonging to a second lever (11) moves within thi~ slot (9 or 9'), this second lever being articulated at (12) with the swinging arm (4).
-A fixed element or arm (13) i9 affixed to the neck flange (2), this arm projecting forwards and at its free end (14) there being affixed the lower lip of the doll.
According to the features described, and in relation 5 to that which is shown in figure 1, when manual pressure is applied on the area of the doll corresponding to where the arm ( d ~ is located internally, the thrust effected on this leads to the swinging of the lever (7), such that as it has its slot inclined downwards its free end (8) swings downwards, which bring~ about the closure of the mouth by this free end (8) pulling the upper lip into its lower position, that i9, into the po~ition of the mouth being c losed .
When the arm (4) ceases to be activated or ~ubject to pressure, the force of the spring (5) tends to bring about the recovery of the original position of this arm (4), giving rise to the swinging of the lever (7) in the opposite direction, and therefore also to the opening of the mouth.
If the desired effect is to open the mouth even more, then slot (9') of the lever (7) i9 to be inclined downwards, with which on swinging it will give rise to the rai~ing of the free end (8) of the same, and will therefore bring about an increased opening of the mouth.
