Abstract

Cette invention consiste notamment à classifier des particules selon leur composition. Les particles (12, 68, 200) sont irradiées au moyen de rayonnements électromagnétiques, habituellement des rayons X, aux deux premiers niveaux d'énergie. Les deux premières valeurs dérivées représentent l'atténuation du rayonnement de chaque particule. Une troisième valeur correspond à la différence ou au rapport entre les deux premières, et les particules sont classifiées selon que la troisième valeur indique la présence d'une substance particulière dans les particules. Dans une application, la méthode peut servir à classifier de la kimberlite diamantifère dans une fraction de particules de kimberlite contenant des inclusions de diamant et une fraction de particules de kimberlite stérile.
