Abstract

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE

The method of jacking a reinforced concrete column and the load borne by it which includes the steps of (1) assembling a clamping device around a column, (2) positioning the clamping device at a position above a portion of the column which is to be repaired or replaced, (3) clamping the clamping device to the column, (4) interposing a plurality of jacks between the clamping device and a second clamping device or other support, and (5) raising the pistons of the jacks to support without substantially raising the load, the clamping device, and the part of the column located above the portion to be repaired or replaced.
A clamping device for clamping reinforced concrete columns which is adapted to be assembled around such a column, has clamping faces which extend substantially completely around the outer face of the column and are faced with conformable, non-adhesive material, such as oak planking, and includes inter-mediate means adapted to bear upon or carry a plurality of jacks.
