Abstract

A control system for providing electrical power from a source to at least one gas discharge lamp comprises a circuit for providing to the lamp an ac component of current at a first frequency and a circuit for simulta-neously providing to the lamp an ac component of current at a second, and substantially lower, frequency. There is established a composite current waveform in the lamp which substantially eliminates the occurrence of visible stria-tions.
