PAINTING/~RIIING INSTRUMENT
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Field of the invention The present invention relates to a painting/writing instrument for applying liquids such as manicure and other cosmetic liquids, writing inks and the liXe, more particularly to painting/writing instrument which is such arranged that liquid therein is maintained not to be discharged during the instrument being stored, displayed or held unused while can be released when using it.
Heretofore, such writing brushes are publicly known, as this type of instruments, that comprise a cartridge filled with writing ink and having an ink discharge port sealed by a plug, a front shaft for holding a brush tuft and temporalily screwed through a ring stopper on the cartridge before use and to be formally, or to usable condition, screwed deeply on the cartridge with the ring stopper removed when using, and an ink conduit arranged in the front shaft such that, when the front shaft is formally connected to the cartridge, the plug on the cartridge may be slipped out of the discharge port accompanying the movement of the front shaft, thereby allowing the writing ink to be applied onto the brush tuft.
However, with such structure of the painting/writing instruments, there has been involved such troublesome disadvantage in operation that, when firstly using, the front shaft temporarily screwed on the cartridge must be detached by screwing off from the cartridge to remove the stopper and then again formally screwed deeply on the cartridge.

The present invention is aimed at overcoming such disadvantage as above-mentioned.
SU~MARY OF T~IE INVENTION
An object of the present invention is to provide an improvement in such a painting/writing instrument which comprises a cartridge having an inner liquid reservoir sealed at discharge port by a plug, a front shaft holding a brush tuft at front end and having a liquid conduit arranged therein communicating with the brush tuft, said liquid conduit applying the liquid in the reservoir onto the brush tuft upon removal of the plug, and a stopper arranged between the front shaft and the cartridge lest the two elements should approach beyond a fixed interval, said stopper being made of elastically deformable material and comprising a ring body partly cut off and a knob radially extending outward from the ring body.
Conveniently, on either joint portion of the front shaft or the cartridge is provided an annular concave or convex detent means and on the other corresponding joint portion of the cartridge or the front shaft are provided a pair of first --and second annular convex or concave engaging means axially -spaced each other.
In the painting/writing instrument according to the --present invention, with the stopper of a novel structure employed, there is not r~quired any troublesome operation since the stopper can be easily removed.
Further, with the provision of such engaging or ---detent means on the joint portions of the front shaft and the cartridge that are simple in structure and capable of properly ,, . . . , ,, , " ,, , , ,,. ", . , , ,. " . . . ", " =,,,,, . " , , " , , ,~, " . . . .. .

maintaining the engaged condition between them, only the front shaft need be pushed axial~ly against the cartridge and there can be eliminated such troublesome operation in conventional instruments that requires several rotation of the front shaft to screw on the cartridge.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Fig. 1 is a sectional view showing a temporarily jointed condition of main portions of a cartridge and a front shaft before use;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a stopper; and Fig. 3 is a sectional view showing a formally jointed condition of the main portions of the cartridge and the front shaft for use.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION AND I'HE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
The present invention will now be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings illustrating an embodiment which is applied to a writing brush.
Referring now to Fig. 1, an ink reservoir l is provided in the cartridge 4. The cartridge 4 has at its front end a tubular portion 14 with small diameter for joining to the front shaft 7, and on the outer surface of the joint portion 14 are provided by undercutting a first and second convex detents 12, 13 axially spaced each other.
In the front end opening of the joint portion 14 of the cartridge 4 is sealingly inserted a bottomed or U-shaped tubular lid 15, and on the bottom of the lid 15 is centrally provided a through hole serving as an ink discharge port 2 in which a spherical plug 3 is inserted in watertightness.
. . . . .
2~2~
The front shaft 7 is made of a resinous material and holds a tapering brush tuft S with a front end portion projecting outward from a front end opening of the front shaft 7.
The rear end of the front shaft 7 is put on the outside of the tubular joint portion 14 with small diameter of the front end of the cartridge 4. An annular convex detent 11 is peripherally provided on the inner wall of the rear end. In the case of Fig. 1 where the annular detent 11 engages with the above first engaging portion 12, any writing ink is not discharged, with the plug 3 being inserted in the discharge port 2 (this condition will be referred to hereinafter as temporary joint).
~ ith the front shaft 7 further pushed on with a stopper 6 removed, the annular detent 11 is slipped out of the -first engaging portion 12 to engage with the second engaging portion 13 (this condition will be referred to hereinafter as -- -formal joint). -~
The space between the first and second engaging portions is choosed to be the same as the width of the ring portion 9 of the stopper 6. Further, a conduit 8 of such profile and dimension is fixedly arranged is the front shaft 7 that, when the annular detent 11 engages with the first engaging portion 12, the rear end of the conduit 8 does not -reach the plug 3, while when the annular detent 11 engages with the second engaging portion 13 with the stopper 6 removed, the rear end of the conduit 8 is inserted into the discharge port 2 while pushing out the plug 3 and further a tapered portion 20 : --.:

provided midway on the conduit 8 sealingly abuts against the front edge of the bottomed tubular lid 15.
Referring now to Fig. 2, the stopper 6 comprises the elastically deformable ring 9 partly cut off to be put on the peripheral surface of the base portion of the tubular joint portion 14 and a knob 10 provided integrally with and radially extending outward from the ring body 9.
The stopper 6 serves to assure that, while it is put on the writing brush with the chartridge 4 and the front shaft engaging spaced apart a fixed interval with each other, the front shaft 7 is not further inserted into the cartridgte 4, the stopper 6 can be elastically deformed and slipped out of the cartridge 7 simply by radially pulling the knob 10 in the direction of an arrow as shown in Fig. 1. With the stopper 6 removed from the cartridge 4, the front shaft now can` be further deeply inserted.
The conduit 8 is fixed at a rear end portion of the brush tuft 5 in the front shaft 7. A through hole 17 is axially provided in the conduit 8. In a front portion of the through hole 17, is inserted a rear end portion of a guide pipe 18 which is per se inserted in the brush tuft S. The conduit 8 is configured such that a rear end portion 19 thereof has such a diameter and length as enabling its front end opening to open in the ink reservoir 1 when it fully enters the discharge port 2 of the above bottomed tubular lid 15, while on the midway of the conduit 8 is provided the tapered sealing face 20 as mentioned before.

The ball-like plug 3 slipped out of the discharge port 2 is sent to the inside of the cartridge 4 to function as a stirring ball for dispersing precipitates in the writing ink.
There are illustrated in Figs. 1,3 an inner cap 22 -put on a front portion of the front shaft 7 and an outer cap 21 put on a rear end portion of the front shaft 7. The inner cap 22 covers the brush tuft S so as to protect the former and prevent undesired vaperization of the writing ink, while, the outer cap 21 covers the front shaft as a whole. There is also illustrated a coil spring 23 provided in the outer cap 21.
Biased by the coil spring 23, the inner cap 22 is inforced not to be slipped out of the front shaft 7 and the latter itself is . -:
biased toward the cartridge 4 through the inner cap 22. By the very existence of the coil spring 23, mere removal of the stopper 6 enables the writing ink to be supplied to the brush . -tuft 5, with the front shaft 7 formally jointed with the cartridge 4 even without removal of the outer cap 21.
