Description

20~3~3 CLAMP BO~T ~OR ASSEMBLY OF TIM8E~ LOG S?~UCTURES

The object of` the invention is a clamp bolt for assembly of timber log structures, to which clamp bolt belong a with a flanging equipped spring housing, inside the spring housing movably Inounted spring element and bolt, which spring element is placed between the bolt and the spring housing, as well as a shaft part to be fastened adjustably on the bolt, and which is arranged to range through the timber logs.
The assembly of the timber log buildings is performed in practice in such a way, that the timber logs are piled on top of each other and wooden dowels are knocked into the holes drilled in the timber logs in order to bind together the structure. The biggest disadvantage with the wooden dowels can be considered the fact, that the structure cannot be made tight enough, because a wooden dowel does not to any noteworthy degree press the timber logs against each other. When drying the timber logs shrink and they are often distorted. This only makes the problem worse and the consequence i8 often gaps in the structure. Particularly in the upper parts of the gables of the buildings gaps are easily appear-ing, because when warming up the building the heatrises upwards and the shrinkage is the biggest in these very timber logs. In the upper part also the weight of the logs is often so insignificant, that they are not able to press the structure tigth enough.
When assembling timber log buildings it is known to make holes on the timber logs, which range in the height direction of the building from the above to the very bottom. In these holes a long, from the above to the bottom ranging clamp bolt, which is tightened with nuts on its spot. The mounting of the clamp bolts is due to their length troublesome.

2 2013g~3 In addltion the clamp bolts muste after the completion of the building be tightened from time to time in order to ~ecure the tightness of the wall structure.

~- 5 The purpose of the invention is to bring forth a clamp bolt for assembly of timber 108 structures, with the help of which clamp bolt some of the above mentioned disadvantageR are eliminated. Additionally, the aim of the invention is to brin8 forward a clamp bolt~ by using of which a timber log wall iæ easy to assemble.
. . . .
The purpose of the invention is achieved with a clamp bolt, which is characterized by that, what is presented in the claims.

To the clamp bolt in accordance with the invention belongs a to the spring housing fastened connector part, on which the shaft part of another clamp bolt can be removably connected. Hereat the above each other mounted clamp bolts form an integral, in the height direction of the timber log wall throughout it reaching, springy construction. The timber log wall is easy to assemble, because each clamp is ranging through a few timber logs only. Hereat the clamp bolts can be placed into the structure stage-wlse, when assembling the building.

One single clamp bolt is favourably arraneed to reach through 2-6 timber logs. Hereat there are several above each other placed clamp bolts in the timber log wall. In such a way the timber log building is made tight, because the springs of each clamp bolt press individually the timber logs located at the clamp bolt against each other. The timber log structure holds its tightness well, and it is not necessary to tighten up the structure later on, because the tightening takes place automatically with the help of the spring elements of the clamp 2~3~3 bolts.
.~ .
In the following the invention will be explained more in detail by referring to the attached drawing, in which figure 1 presents an application of the clamp bolt in accordance with the invention seen from the side and partly in cross-section, figure 2 presents the clamp bolt to be placed in the upper part of the structure seen from the side, partly in cross-section, figure 3 presents seen from the side and in cross-section a part of the timber log wall, in which clamp bolts in accordance with the invention have been placed, figure 4 presents a draft for placing of the clamp bolts in accordance with the invention in a timber log structure, and figure 5 presents the mounting bushing for the clamp bolt in accordance with the invention seen from the side.
':' In accordance with figure 1 to the clamp bolt being the object of the invention belong a spring housing 2, which is equipped with a flanging 1, inside the spring housing placed spring element 3 and bolt 4, on the bolt removably fastened shaft part 5 as well as on the spring housing fastened connector part ô. To the bolt belongs the head 4a and the spring element, which in this application is a break spring, is placed between the head part 4a of the bolt and the spring housing. The bolt is reaching from the spring housing and it can be fastened by means of threads on the 6haft part 5. On the connector part 6 located on the other side of the spring housing threads are formed and the shaft part of another clamp bolt can be screwed on and fastened at the connector part.

~0134~3 In accordance with figure 1 to the clamp bolt belongs additionally a fastening device 7, on which the shaft part of the clamp bolt can be detachably fasten-ed. On figure 1 as the fastening device 7 a blocking nut has been presented, which can beforehand be mounted in a hole made in the timber log by means of nailing. Such a blocking nut is fastened generally in a hole made in the as bottommost lying timber log. When the clamp bolt is fastened to some other timber log, for instance a screw holdfast can be used. The screw holdfast can in a known manner be equipped with a chip groove, which pre~ents from jamming.

The clamp bolt presented in figure 2 is used in the upper partæ of the structure. To the clamp bolt no actual connector part does belong, because above this clamp bolt no other clamp bolt is fastened anymore.
The clamp bolts are placed on their spots in the timber log structure by screwing firstly the shaft part on its spot either in the fastening device or in the connector part of another clamp bolt.
After this the spring housing is placed in the hole in such a way, that the end of the bolt situated inside the spring housing comes into the hole equipped with threads located in the upper part of the shaft part. In the application presented as the clamp bolt a hexagonal bolt has been used, and the free opening of the thread formed in the connector part i8 dimensioned in such a way, that the clamp bolt can be mounted on its spot by means of a hexagonal wrench pushed in through the hole. When tightening the hex bolt the break spring is pressed together, when the flanging of the spring housing meets an obstacle and the twisting is continued. The head of the bolt is hereat pressing the spring together.

~ .. . . . .

2013~

The bolt i8 mounted on its spot so tightly, that the flanging of the spring housing sinks down into the timber log the distance of its own thickness.

;~ 5 When joining timber logs together for a pr~liminary fastening the mounting bushing 8 presented in figure 5 can be used as an auxiliary tool. The bushing keeps the structure together during the mounting of the timber logs. The bushings are mounted with 10 a striking arbor, and the shaft part of the clamp bolt can be mounted on its place through the bushing " 8. The bushing presented in the figure iB equipped - with barbs 8a in order to improve the grip.
,:
15 The clamp bolts are placed above each other in the way presented in the figures 3 and 4, whereat they form an integral, springy structure. Into the structure additionally single independent clamp bolts can be inserted. The clamp bolts can be placed in optional 20 spots of the structure.

The invention is not limited to the presented favour-able applications, but it can vary within the in-ventional concept framed in by the claims.
