Abstract

A method for producing pulp, primarily wood pulp, from lignocellulosic material such as wood chips using microwave irradiation of chemically treated chips prior to mechanical defibration. The novel aspect of the microwave irradiation prior to refining is that it results in reduced cooking time and energy.
