Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a woody material excellent in strength, by a method wherein, after a woody material, with moisture more than a blanced moisture rate, is irradiated with microwaves for the plasticization, it is compressed to be dried and cured.
CONSTITUTION: A laminar or square woody material 1, being provided with moisture more than a blanced moisture rate, is placed in a microwave irradiating chamber to be irradiated with microwaves 2, and is heated to 100W120°C to soften the wood component, such as hemicellulose, lignin, of the woody material 1 and simultaneously to evaporate the moisture from the inside for the plasticization of the whole woody material. During or immediately after the irradiation, an outer force is exerted between heat boards 3 and 4 of a hot press and in the direction crossing the fiber direction of the woody material 1 at right angles for the compression, and the woody material 1 is dried and cured while it is in a compression state. This produces a compressed wood which is closely compressed and is excellent in a decorative property.
