This request is a division of the request for Canadian patent no. 601.658 filed June 2, 1989.
The present invention relates to a method of preparation of glazing, in particular glazing automobile, with a view to mounting it in a bay frame by gluing the marginal zone of the glazing to a wing for fixing the bay frame, in which at least two partial beads of glue with cross-section brée are deposited on the glazing, each time by extru-sizing a mass of glue using an extrusion nozzle calibrated, one of the partial cords being already hardened during the installation of glazing in the bay frame while the other partial cord constitutes the cord of active adhesive for fixing the glazing in said frame.
A process of this type is known from the docu-ment EP-0121481 Bl. In this known process, a first partial bead of glue is already applied to the glazing in the glassworks or at any time before mounting in the vehicle body. This removes, in the vehicle assembly line, operations necessary for cleaning and priming the glazing, which, at the level of the assembly line itself, represents a significant simplification. Another benefit significant of this process lies in the fact that at using this first partial bead of glue, pieces structural frame, such as moldings, profiled joint covers, bracing edges or tear wires can be previously permanently fixed to the glazing. In this way, others operations, which otherwise would have to be carried out directly on the assembly line, can be by advance and at any time, and therefore operations on the assembly line itself are found

significantly simplified.
In the case of the known method, the cord mounting glue is ap ~ liquidated immediately before installation of glazing as part of the bay on the hardened partial bead or on the fixing wing of said frame, that is to say directly on the assembly line of ~ Jehi-automobile cules.
The invention aims to develop this process known in such a way that its advantages remain maintained in their entirety but that a further simplification be achieved for the automotive const ~ ructor at the chain mounting.
The invention resides in the fact that the partial beads of glue are deposited on the glazing in a single extrusion operation and one differential treatment of the two partial cords of glue ensures that at least one partial bead hardens in as short a time as possible, while another partial bead (bead of mounting adhesive) remains plastically deformable and adhesive for a time as long as possible.
Thanks to the process according to the invention, by compared to the known process, we make the complete economy of the operation of separately applying the bead of mounting glue, which so far was carried out directly on the assembly line.
This second operation is on the contrary coupled with the so-called pre-coating operation, i.e.
applying the first partial bead of glue, but according to the invention, the partial beads of glue applied simultaneously are processed in a way differentiated such as when mounting the glazing as part of bay they have the properties different desired.
~ 3 t ~ 366 1 3 In a first embodiment of the invention, the differential treatment of the two cords partial glue can consist of the cords glue parts are made of glue masses different, but compatible, which are advantageously coextruded using an appropriate extrusion head for this purpose.
When performing this form of process, when the two glues are applied to the glazing is determined by the time limit for using the mass of adhesive forming the bead of mounting glue, provided that none action is taken to prevent hardening. The limited service life of the mounting adhesive cannot not be too long, because after the placement glazing in the vehicle body, this glazing must be fixed in place as soon as possible. For for this reason, it may be advisable not to carry out applying relatively little glue beads time before mounting the glazing in the vehicle body, the chosen del ~ i can vary, depending on composition and duration of use limit of the two adhesive masses, between a few hours (and a few days.
So that, for example, for the partial cord hardening in a short time, adhesives of polyurethane with one or more components is suitable, one-component polyurethane adhesive hardens on contact with moisture can be used for the partial adhesive remaining bead, this bead partial being covered with a layer preventing a premature hardening, which must be removed before glazing assembly.
According to another embodiment of the invention, for the partial adhesive remaining bead, 4 t 336 ~) 1 3 can use a multi-component glue, especially a polyurethane adhesive with several components, which contains a priming or microcapsule reaction, in which case the reaction of hardening is started ~ ar destruction of capsules by heating or exposure to microwaves immediately before mounting the glazing. Such activatable glue systems belong to the state known in the art.
10According to another embodiment of the invention is used for both the horn ~ on partial hardening in a short time and for the bead f partial adhesive remaining polyurethane to a single component which hardens on contact with moisture the atmosphere, in which case the bead of mounting glue is covered with a layer preventing or delaying access water vapor. The different partial cords can, in this case, be made of the same polyurethane single component.
20According to another embodiment of the process according to the invention, partial beads of glue having different pro ~ rieties can also be obtained by the fact that a profiled bead including the individual partial cords is extruded as a bead of glue combined from a single mass of glue which hardens with an energy supply exterior and that, by a localized supply of energy mechanical or radiant, lateral areas selected from the cross section of the bead combined glue are hardened beforehand, while the partial bead located between hardened side areas of the cross section remains adhesive.
Other variants of the process of the invention Will emerge from the dependent claims and exemplary embodiments which are described in detail below after with reference to the drawings.

This profiled strip 3 has a section 4 essentially in the form of a hose which, in the assembled state of the glazing, to fill the gap between edge 2
3 of the glazing and the counterpart wing 5 of the bay frame. ~ a bent section 6 of the strip profile 3 is glued to the face of the glazing 1 turned towards the fixing wing 8 of the bay frame.
Glazing 1 is provided, all around its marginal zone, of an opaque coating 10 which, hand, prevents any vision of the outside on the area glued and, on the other hand, protects the ~ layers of glue against UV radiation which would otherwise cause weakening of the glue. The coating 10 is usually made of baking enamel that has been baked during the heating involved in the bending and / or in the tempering operations of the glazing.
When making a glued joint, appropriate preparation of the glass surface to which the adhesive mass must adhere to, also makes part of usual operations. Generally, this surface preparation consists of a treatment with a suitable cleaning fluid followed by coating with a base coat adequate, but this preparation of the glazing depends each time from the glue system used.
The fact of already installing the profiled frame of periphery 3 on the glazing before mounting this glazing in the bay frame has the great advantage that mounting the glazing on the assembly line itself is simplified. To achieve this goal, however that the bonding of the strip or the frame profile 3 to the glazing is produced when this element presents, for example, the cross section in L
represented. An L-shaped cross section is however necessary when an aerodynamic mounting of the glazing must be carried out, i.e. when no framing piece cannot protrude from the exterior surface of the glazing. The collage of the frame profile 3 in the glazing is produced using the cord profiled glue 12 which also fills the known functions mentioned above. The cord of profiled adhesive 12 preferably has a cross section essentially U-shaped, lateral ribs 13 having the task, when putting ~ 7 1 3366 1 3 in place of the glazing in the frame, to delineate laterally the bead of glue 15.
The bead of glue 12 shaped in the form of channel and the bead of glue 15 applied to this bead of glue 12 are deposited in a single operation on the coextrusion glazing. In this case, we use for the extrusion of the adhesive bead 12, a mass of glue which hardens in a relatively short time and which ensures a solid connection of the profiled frame 3 to the glazing. For the bead of glue 15 which fills the function of the mounting adhesive, we use a mass glue which, on the one hand, is compatible with the bead glue 12, that is to say which adheres properly to the bead of glue 12, and which, on the other hand, has a significantly longer working life and remains plastically deformable and adhesive for a period predefined.
~ a preparation of glazing for mounting advantageously takes place in a working environment preceding the assembly line, in which the glazings are prepared in accordance with the invention, for example, a span of time - determined before the installation moment. In this way, glazing can be prepared, for example, a few hours to several days before mounting and be supplied to the assembly line when they get there are necessary.
When using for the bead of glue profile 12 and the bead of mounting adhesive 15 of adhesive masses with limited service lives different we can use with an advantage particular polyurethane adhesives with a single component or to multiple components that have been found satisfactory as adhesives for mounting glazing automobiles. In particular in the case of adhesives multi-component polyurethane, it is known that the curing time can be adjusted between wide limits by various measures. Compositions of ADHESIVE ADHESIVES are described, for example, in documents DE 35 45 899 Cl, EP 0 153 456 Al and 0 238 & 90 Al. Using adhesives known from this type, it is possible to manufacture glazing prepared for mounting in which the cord glue 12 is hardened, for example, after an hour, while the service life limit of the adhesive bead assembly 15 is at least three hours.
A particularly form of execution advantageous of the process consists in using, for the profiled adhesive bead 12, a polyurethane adhesive with one or more components, which hardens in one relatively short time, and to review for the cord glue 15, a polyurethane glue with several components, containing a primer or reaction in an inactivated form, for example under form of microcapsules, the activation of this component initiation or reaction taking place for example by heating or by adequate irradiation of the glue 15 or all of the prepared glazing, immediately before mounting the glazing.
In the embodiment shown on Figs. 3 and 4, the glazing 1 is again provided, the along its marginal zone, with an opaque coating 10 and, for mounting in the window frame of the vehicle, it is pre-equipped with a profiled adhesive bead in the form of a frame 18 and simultaneously a bead of mounting adhesive 15. The profiled adhesive bead 18 in this case, as such, has a sealing lip 20 which protrudes from the periphery of the glazing and which has function, in the assembled state of the glazing, to bridge or close the gap between the edge surface `- 9 1336613 2 and the counterpart wing 5 of the window frame. Of more, this sealing lip 20 has oour function, during of the installation of the glazing in the rebate of the window frame, to serve as a centering lip. She ensures that the peripheral surface 2 of the ~ Jitrage is kept on all sides at the same distance from wing 5 of the window frame and it retains the glazing in this centered position during hardening ~ ent of glue mounting. This sealing lip 20 is, in this case, by an adequate configuration of the extrusion nozzle, formed directly during the extrusion of the bead profiled ~ 8 and therefore made Dartie of this cord profile 18 itself. In addition, the profiled bead 18 again has a cross section in the form of channel having two lateral ribs 13 which define the mass 15 of the mounting adhesive laterally.
The hardening of the profiled bead 18 must to have taken place when the glazing was mounted. A
rapid hardening of this profiled bead 18 is also necessary for the sealing lip projecting free 20 does not deform. In addition, the time hardening should be as short as possible to securing the tear wire 21 which, when the extrusion of the profiled bead 1 &, is embedded in it glue bead, This tear wire 21 has the task of facilitate the dismantling of the window frame glazing, because it serves as a separation wire to cut the bead of glue.
The sealing lip 20 can, if necessary, be made of a different material than the rest of the profiled bead 18 and be manufactured by coextrusion together with the profiled bead 18. From this way it is possible to make lips sealant with modified properties, which exhibit, for example, increased stability with respect to W rays and / or increased resistance to bad weather because, unlike the rest of the cord profile 1 &, the sealing lip is partly exposed directly to the weather.
At the same time as the extrusion of the cord profile 1 ~ takes place the extrusion of the bead of glue assembly 15 which is deposited in the cord channel profile 1 &. The mass of glue forming the profiled bead 18 is again different from the mass of glue 15 forming the bead of mounting glue which, for its share, has a relatively limited working life long from several hours to several days. The respective adhesive masses can, in this case, be the same as described above of Figs. 1 and 2.
~ a Fi ~. 5 illustrates an embodiment, in which, on the glazing 1, which is again provided of an opaque frame-shaped coating 10, two glue beads are arranged one next to the other. ~ e partial bead of glue 22 is formed a mass of glue hardening in one time relatively brief. It has a cross section substantially triangular. The bead of hardened glue 22 is used, when installing the glazing, to fix the spacing between the glazing and the fixing wing of the bay frame and in addition to prevent the ground of the plastically deformable and remaining adhesive bead adhesive 23 seeps into the gap between the edge surface 2 and the counterpart wing of bay frame. In addition, the bead of hardened glue 22 can be used, for example, to fix a tear wire or other parts of the structural frame. Cord partial 23 consists of the mass of adhesive remaining adhesive. It is applied ~ in this case directly on the glazing or on the coating 10 and is not connected only laterally in the area of the contact surface 24 to the bead of hardened adhesive 22.
The form of execution illustrated in FIG. 6 is also characterized in that the adhesive bead remaining adhesive 25 is directly in contact with the coating 10 or with the glass surface and is not limited only laterally by two beads of glue hardened 26 and 27. The hardened adhesive beads 26 and 27 again play the role of delimiting ribs for the bead of mounting adhesive 25, as well as - spacers. A tear wire 28 is, in furthermore, disposed in the bead of hardened adhesive 26, In the embodiment of the invention illustrated in FIG. 7, vi ~ rage 1 is provided with a opaque coating 10 on which is dis dosed a profile composite extruded 30. This composite profile 30 is at new consisting of a bead of glue with a U-shaped section, 31, made of a fairly hardening glue mass quickly, as well as a bead of mounting glue 32 arranged in the channel formed by the adhesive bead 31 and consisting of a mass of more hardening glue slowly. The bead of mounting adhesive 32 is consisting in this case of a polyurethane with a single component which hardens by reaction with moisture the ambient atmosphere. The free surface of the glue 32 is covered by a film 33 which protects the surface of the adhesive bead 32 against a direct contact with the ambient atmosphere. This prevents contact of the surface of the adhesive bead 32 with the humidity of the air, or delays more or less strongly contact with this air humidity. The delay between glazing preparation and mounting of this glazing can, in this ~ te way, be significantly elongated.
Immediately before mounting the glazing, we ~ 12 t336613 remove the film 33 and thus clear the surface of the bead of mounting adhesive 32.
Film 33 is made, for example, of a polymer which is suitable for casting or extrusion. he is applied at the same time or immediately after coextrusion of the two beads of glue 31 and 32 on the bead of glue 32 and this in a coherent layer which goes from one lateral rib 13 to the other lateral rib rale 13. The material of the film 33 and its thickness must be chosen such that the film cule 33 can be torn from a single piece of cord of glue 32 and that the adhesive properties of the bead of glue 32 are not adversely affected.
The film 33 can also, for example, be made of an inorganic material which can be applied queas in the flowing state, which hardens or crystallizes in a closed film coating that requires no additional operation for removing the film empties when mounting the glass, but frees itself the mounting adhesive layer. When this layer is made, for example, of a fragile inorganic material, which is subjected to internal tensions, the film tears off under the effect of pressure stresses exerted during the assembly of the glazing and is divided into small fragments, so that the cord surface of mounting adhesive is released. The fragments are, for their part, wet by the mass of glue and drowned in this and they do not interfere with the bonding operation.
Where appropriate, adequate measures, such as an irra-diation or similar measures, ensure that the necessary embrittlement of the film does not occur only shortly before mounting the glazing.
A particularly economical form of execution mique of the process according to the invention is illustrated on 13 l 33b6 13 Fig. 8. In this case, we do not proceed as described above, at the coextrusion of two adhesive masses different to form a composite profile, but we extruded and deposited on the glazing 1 or on the coating 10 applied to the glazing 1 a bead of profiled glue 34, which is homogeneous and is made of a poly single-component urethane hardening on contact with atmospheric humidity. The cross section of the bead of glue 34 corresponds substantially to the section transverse of a composite profile formed of a profile U-section base arranged on the glazing and a bead of mounting adhesive placed in the profile of base, the upper side of the adhesive bead 34 being pro-spun in such a way that two lips are formed longitudinal side 35 between which the mass of glue forms a bulge 36.
The surface of the bulge 36 of the adhesive bead 34 is again covered with film 37. The film 37 is made up in one of the very very ways low permeability to water vapor described in the previous example. It protects the covered surface against access of water vapor. In this way, the area between the longitudinal lips 35 in below the film 37 remains plastically deformable and adhesive. However, the ambient humidity is free access to unprotected surfaces of the adhesive bead 34.
It ensures that the bead of adhesive 34 hardens in a marginal zone 38 of U-shaped cross section, while that in the area covered by film 37, there remains plastically deformable and adhesive.
Fig. 9 finally illustrates an ex-trusion suitable, for example, for coextrusion of two different glue masses and for their deposition ~ 14 1 3366 1 3 on the glazing 1 or on the coating 10 arranged in the marginal area of the glazing. The extrusion nozzle 39 proper consists of a square pipe 40 open at its lower part, in contact with ~ ec the S ~ itrage, and which is moved in the direction!
arrow F on the glazing 1. The square pipe 40 present, on the rear side seen in the direction of displacement, a lower nozzle orifice 41 whose shape corresponds to the desired section of the cord profile 42. Above the nozzle orifice 41 is provided a second nozzle orifice 43. The shape of this nozzle 43 corresponds to the cross section desired cross section of the adhesive bead 44 which serves bead of mounting glue. The square pipe 40 is internally divided by a partition 45 in two spaces separated from each other, one of which is in communication with nozzle port 43 and is supplied by the supply tube 46 using the glue mass for the mounting adhesive bead 44, while the other is in communication with the nozzle orifice 41 and is supplied by the tube supply 47 using the adhesive mass which forms the profiled bead 42.
In addition, a coaxial guide tube 48 is provided on the square pipe 40 at the front of it and is used to bring to an opening 49 provided in bottom of the front wall of the square pipe, a cable 50 made of a very resistant fibrous material. This cable 50 is thus embedded in the profiled bead 42 and serves as tear cable.
~ When the embodiments of Figs. 7, 8 must be carried out, the extrusion nozzle 39 is, in additionally, provided with another nozzle orifice and a matching feeding device which allow apply the covering film on the bead mounting glue.
