Abstract
ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE:
Water-resistant device for fixing a water glass to an element of a watch case. The lower face of the watch glass is provided with a peripheral bevel defining, in service position and with the frontal and lateral walls of a shoulder step formed by the watch case element, a recess having an O-ring seal.
Water-resistant device for fixing a water glass to an element of a watch case. The lower face of the watch glass is provided with a peripheral bevel defining, in service position and with the frontal and lateral walls of a shoulder step formed by the watch case element, a recess having an O-ring seal.
Description
The presen~ invention ~elates ~o A water-resistant device ~or fixing a watch glass on an element, a bezel or middle~bezel for examp~e, of a watch case.
Generall~, the m~ddle of a watch case is pro-vided with a shoulder step, definin~ a housing ~or the watch glass, Qn which the said watch glass res~s. The water~resistant flxation of the watch glass on said middle is obtained by placing a compressib~e gasket between the periphery o~ the watc~ glass and the middle of the watch ~0 case~ The compress~ble gasket has generally the shape of a I or of a L, it can sometimes be partially housed in a ~roove pro~lded in ~he middle to ascertain its axial positioning, In these realizations,-the upper face of the gasket is visible and this hurts the ~sthetical outlook of the watch. Furthermore, at the contact of air and dust, the gasket can be damaged. Finally, the aging of the gasket cause~ it to crack, causing defects of the water-resistance.
There are also watch cases in which the watch ~lass is glued in a housing o the middle part of the watch. In these latter xealizations, the replacem~nt of v the glass, when it is scratched for example, is difficult and the water~resistance is not guaranteed.
~5 The present invention has for its object water-resistant fixing of the watch glass on an element of a watch case, tending to overcome the drawbacks oE the aforesaid realizations More specifically, the object of the invention lies in the provision of a device for watertightly mounting a watch glass, having a lower face, on a watch case element defining a watch glass ope~ing shaped as a shoulder step formed by a front wall and a lateral wall, device characterized ~y the ~act that the watch glass is flat and has an outer ~imension corresponding to the opening;

The attached drawing shows schematlcally and by wa~ of example t~70 embodiments of the water-resistant fixing device accordlng to the inYe~tion~
Figure 1 ls a parti~l cross-section of a watch case using the water-resistant fixing device f~r the watch glass, according to the in~ention.
Figure 2 is a partial cross-section on a larger scale of a watch case sho~ing one embodiment of the ~ater-resistant fixing de~ice for the watch glass, Figure 3 is a partial cross-section on a larger scale of a watch case showing another embodiment of the ~ater resistant flx~ng device.
In the embodiment shown at figure 3r the 2Q water-resistant de~ice for flxing t~e watch glass 1 on a mlddle 2 of the watch case comprises a shoulder step 3 provided in the middle 2 which can be separated from the upper face of this middle by a distance of 0,75 mm for example, This shoulder step is located on the whole periphery of the middle and determines a housing intended to receive the watch glass.
~ he watch glass 1 has a ~iameter or an outside dimension or the ~haped watch case, corresponding to the dimensions of the housing of the middle so that the watch glass is fastened in the housing of the middle.
Preferabl~, the watch glass 1 is dri~en in the said housing of the middle 2, but it could also be glued in said housing.
~ 2 ~s~
~e lo~er face o~' the ~irror comprlses a bevel 4 defining~ ln service p~sition,'an annular cavity With the angle of the houstng provided in th,e middle 2. An O-ring g~sket 5 ha~ing a circuIar s~ape or another shape, corresponding to the one of the ~ldd~e 2 is, ~n sexVice position, compressed in said ca~i~y which it fills practically en~lre~ and guarantees perfect water t~ghtness between the mlddle 2 and the glass 1~ This g~sket 5 is entirely protected and does not e~tend between the glass ~0 and the middle ~ic~ are in tight mechanica~ contact on a portion of the-thickness of the gl~ss 1~
For the ~asket 5 not to be ~islble through the watch glass l, it can be translucent or transparent, In another embodiment r th,e beveled face 4 of the glass 1 ~5 can be metallized or ground opaque t~us mak,ing the gasket 5.
In its non deformed state the gasket can have a section having a diameter of 0,3 mm for example.
The main ad~antages of this embodiment are that:
1. The gl~ss 1 is in mechanical contact with the middle 2, providing for a perfect fixing of the glass;

4. This embodiment can be applied to circular or shaped watches and is particularly well adapted for extra-thin watches t since it takes little room, in height, permitting in certain cases to reduce the height of the watch case.
In the embodiment of the device shown in figures 1 and 2, the middle 2 further comprises an inclined face 6. This enables, for a same dimension of the gasket 5,-and thus of the ca~ity receiving it~ to reduce the length o~ the beveled face 4 of the glass and thus ~3S~5~
of the heig~t of the cavit~ e~abling a~so ~o reduce the thickness of the glass ~n.d of ~he shoulder Step of the middle.
Here aiso, t~e-glass 1 is driven ln or ylued in the houslng of the middle 2 and t~e ~asket ~s made in~isible either because it is translucent or by metalliza.tion or opa.que~g~inding of the beveled face of the glass 1~
Further to the above advantage, this second embodiment enables a further reduction in the ~hickness of the glass and of the ~atch case.
Preferably~ the beveled face 4 of the glass 1 forms an angle of 45 with the lower ~ace of the said glass 1.
