Abstract
Abstract A discharge apparatus for a silo, comprising walls (2), a base funnel (1) and a delivery port (8) at the bottom end thereof.
A problem to be solved is the vaulting of a siloed material and jamming of its downward trickling. In order to solve the problem, the wall (1) of a base funnel is pivotably linked (4) to the body and adapted to be pivoted up and down by means of a cam mechanism (5, 6).

Description
Discharge apparatus for a silo.
The present invention r~lates to a discharge apparatus Eor a silo, comprisillg walls, a base funnel and a feeding port at the bottom end thereof~
With solid materials such as wood chips and peat, discharge of a silo is difficult since such materials vault easily. Here-tofore, the problem has been solved by means of various vibrators or push rods, chain conveyors or parallel screws.
These are expensive and complicated arrangements and spend plenty of energy.
An object of the invention is to provide an effective discharge apparatus for eliminating a vaulting effect and boosting a trickling effect.
This object is achieved by means of a silo discharge apparatus according to the invention whose characteristic features are set forth in the appended claims.
The invention will now be described in more detail with refer-ence made to the accompanying drawings, in which:
fig. 1 is a diagrammatic view of the bottom portion of a ~ilo equipped with a discharge apparatus of the invention, and Eigs. 2 and 3 illustrate the operating principle of a discharge apparatus of the invention.
Construction of the apparatus shown in fig. 1 will be apparent from the following list of components:
1 a displaceable bottom wall

2 fixed silo walls
3 a sealing between the fixed and displaceabl~ wall
4 a pivoted ïink
5 a lift roller
6 a cam
7 an adjustahle edge member
8 a delivery port
9 a transfer conveyor.
The apparatus operates as follows. A silo is charged or filled with a material, e.g. wood chips to be treated. Discharge of the silo is started by actuating a conveyor 9. By way of a port 8 said material trickles onto conveyor 9. After a certain period of time, depending on a material to be treated J the -trickling comes to an end as a result of vaulting. ~n automat ic control actuates a cam 6. The displaceable bottom wall 1 is journalled to the body by means of a lin~ 4 and swings therearound as lifted a certain distance by cam 6. The dis-placeable wall 1 sets the material particles in motion as shown in fig. 2: First along a circular arc A to apex B where-after, by virtue of the design of said cam 6, wall 1 rapidly drops by its own weiyht -to the initial position but, under the effect of gravity, said material particles drop straight down-wards to point C. Thus, the material particles nave travelled a distance D towards a discharge gate or delivery port 8.
Simultaneously, the upward movement of wall 1 produces a fracture plane 10 in the whole amount of material, said plane Eracturing an existing vault (~ig. 3).
The work cycle is repeated in intervals typical to each given materi.al. Eor minimizing the power demand of a transfer conveyor 9 it is possible to adjust the width of delivery port 8 by means of a displaceable plate 7. This is to prevent the jamming of said transfer conveyor 9.
The invention offers the following advantages:
- facilitates the lateral displacement of a material in silo without any actual displacement mechanism - prevents the vaulting - can be built without size restrictions - low energy consumption - delivery onto a transfer conveyor adjustable - is particularly suitab].e for the treatment of a solid fuel, such as wood chips, cutter dust, sawdust and both cut and milled peat - both bottoms of a silo can be constructed displacèable which is preferable in the treatment of powdered materials.
