Abstract

Abstract of the disclosure:

Applicator for administering active substances by means of a nose-clip according to German Offenlegungsschrift No. 2,926,283, wherein the side of the applicator facing the nasal septum has a triangular outline or an outline derived from a triangle and in case of necessity maybe even oblong; the sides of the triangle directed towards the bow of the nose-clip forming an angle ?.

Description

1~L777(~8 Nose-clips consisting of a bow the ends of which are provided with means for receiving active substances in the form of depot bodies, said ends of the bow and said receiv-ing means being inclined towards each other and turned to face each other, or the surfaces of the depot bodies mounted thereon being inclined towards each other and turned to face each other are described in German Offenlegungsschrift No.
2,910,629.
The depot bodies can be divided into a dimensionally stable, optionally elastic, applicator free from active substance, and a dimensionally variable reservoir containing active substance and connected with the applicator (see German Offenlegungsschrift No, 2,926,283).
Cattle are generally kept in stalls where they are either tethered or allowed to run freely. Calves may furthermore be kept in boxes. In the latter two cases, it has been observed that clips as described in the above Offenlegungsschrift with depot bodies of cylindrical shape were stripped off more frequently than in tethering stalls.
The intended effect of nose-clip administration of course is thus not attained.
By "cattle", there is to be understood in this context and hereinafter the bovine species. unless otherwise stated.
Surprisingly, it has now been found that when using depot bodies divided into applicator and reservoir the clips remain in place in the case of all three kinds of stabling and the intended effect is thus ensured.if that side of the applicator facing the nasal septum has a triangular outline.
The invention provides therefore an applicator for ad-ministering active active substances by means of a nose-clip consisting of a bow and means for receiving depot bodies, divided into applicators free from active substance and reservoirs containing active substances according to German Offenlegungsschrift No. 2,926,283, whereln the side of the applicator facing the nasal septum has a triangular outline or an outline derived from a triangle and in case of neces-sity may be even oblong.the sides of the triangle directed towards the bow of the nose-clip forming an angle ~ of from 40 to 180~.

1~L777(~8 By outline there is to be understood that surface of the applicator facing the nasal septum and optionally serving as support for the reservoir on the applicator.
The sides of the triangle forming the angle are de-fined as being sides 1 and 2, side 3 is positioned oppositeto the angle. They are rectilinear; alternatively, they may be dented or curved, so that outlines derived from a tri-angle are formed, for example outlines of kidney~ kite or rhomb shape.
The invention will be better understood by reference to the accompanying drawing. the FIGURES of which represent:
FIGURE 1: outline, triangular FIGURE 2: section II - II of FIGURE 1 The edges are rounded off in accordance with the ana-tomic conditions. It is not required that all three edgesof the triangle are rounded off identically. The sides of the triangle may be of identical or different length.
Preferably side 1 is rectilinear, side 2 is curved concave-ly (dented), side 3 is curved convexly and the angle ~ is from 50 to 110~ preferably 95 ;
The applicator is connected to the reservoir as des-cribed in German Offenlegungsschrift No. 2,926,283. The reservoir has the shapes as described in the above Offen-legungsschrift. In FIGURE 2, the reservoir is an annular hose filled with active substance which is connected to the applicator 5. In the FIGURES, 6 is the connecting part and 7 part of a bow.
The side of the applicator facing the nasal septum of the animal is rounded off,cone- or saddle-shaped, and adapted to the anatomic conditions in the nasal vestibule.
The applicator may be of identical overall thickness:
however, for technical and tolerability reasons and because of better fitting, a depot body is preferred the front part of which is thicker than the back part (that is. in the direction of the interior of the nose).

~7'~'7~

The depot bodies divided into an applicator having a speeial shape and a reservoir are suitable for administe-ring aetive substnees to animals, especially eattle, by means of a nose-elip.
Suitable for this purpose is for example the nose-elip deseribed in German Offenlegungsschrift No. 2,926,283.
The depot bodies consisting of applicator and reser-voir may be manufaetured in principle from any appropriate material whieh is physiologieally acceptable. They ean be prepared aeeording to the proeess diselosed in German Offenlegungsschrift No. 2,926S283.

Claims (5)

THE EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION IN WHICH AN EXCLUSIVE
PROPERTY OR PRIVILEGE IS CLAIMED ARE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:
1. A device for administering active substances in the form of a nose-clip comprising a bow and means for receiving depot bodies each including an applicator free from active substance and a reservoir containing an active substance, wherein the side of the applicator intended to face the nasal septum in use has an outline defined in part by two sides which are intended to be directed towards the bow of the nose-clip in use and which together define an angle .alpha. of from 40° to 180°, and wherein, when a is less than 180°, the remainder of said outline is defined by a third side forming a generally triangular outline, and wherein when .alpha. is 180° the said outline is generally oblong.
2. A device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the angle a is from 50 to 110°, preferably 95°.
3. A device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the sides are rectilinear, curved or dented.
4. A device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the edges and the side facing the nasal septum are rounded off, and the applicator is cone-or saddle-shaped in accordance with the anatomic conditions.
5. A device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the front part is thicker than the back part.
