Abstract

Abstract of the Disclosure Assembly for extraction of smoke, gases, etc. which Comprises a suction funnel that is adjustable to any desired position. To this end, the funnel is attached to a suction hose which is flexible in all directions and the length of which is variable and which, together with the suction funnel, is retained in the desired position by means of a balancing device.

Description

~q75~1 The present invention relates to an adjustable assembly for the extraction of, for instance, gases, smoke, powder and dust at their source of generation, comprising a suction pipe preferably connected to an exhaust device, a suction funnel, a suction hose the length of which is variable and which extends between the suction pipe and the suction funnel, and means for - optional variation of the length of the hose and, thus, of the position of the funnel.
Prior art smoke extraction assemblies of the above type are either complicated or difficult to move from one location to another, in general from one working place to another.
According to the invention, these problems are so~ved in that the hose is flexible in all directions and normally extends substantially vertically between the pipe and the funnel, and in that the means for varying the hose length are disposed inside the hose and comprise a balancing plummet suspended by a line and substantially balancing the mass of the hose and of the fun-nel so as to maintain the funnel in the desired adjusted posi-tion.
The assembly of the invention is simple, cheap to manufac-tue, easy to mount and requires little effort to be moved from one location to another.
The invention will be described is greater detail below with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which a preferred embodiment is shown schematically in side elevation, a suction hose forming part of the assembly being shown in sectional view in order clearly to illustrate the means disposed within the ~
hose.
2 -~0~7~ii;~1 In the dra~ling, the smoke extraction assembly according to the invention is suitably, but not necessarily, suspended by an articulated, horizontally pivotal arm 1 which is mounted by means of a mounting 2 to a suitable support, for example a ver-tical wall or the like.
The extraction assembly comprises a suction pipe 3 which is composed of a bend 4 mounted at the outer, free end of the arm 1, and a pipe length 5 which is preferably flexible and extends between said pipe bend and a suction fan (not shown), only a short portion of the pipe length 5 being shown in the drawing.
The assembly further comprises a suction funnel 6 and a suction hose 7 normally extending substantially vertically bet~
ween the funnel and the bend 4 of the suction pipe 3. The suc-tion hose 7 is secured in a substantially air-tight manner to the vertical portion of the pipe bend 4 and to the upper portion of the suction funnel 6 by suitable fastening means (not shown), for instance hose clamps. The suction hose 7 is flexible in all directions and its length is variable such that the suction fun-nel 6 can be moved to any desired position and retained in this position by appropriate means which will be described in greater detail below. The suction hose 7 may consist of a steel spiral which has a certain spacing between the wires of the spiral and is coated with a thin glass fibre fabric, whereby the hose can be compressed in its longitudinal direction until the wires of the spiral are brought so close to each other that only the ~lass fibre fabric separates them. The maximum extension of the suction hose 7 depends on both the total length of the hose and the distance between the wires of the spiral when the glasS fibre . 3 l~q753~

fabric is fully stretched.
Inside the flexible suction hose 7 there are means 8 for optional. variation of the hose length and thus of the vertical position of the funnel 6, and for retaining the funnel in the desired, adjusted position. In the shown embodiment, the means 8 comprise a line 9 of a suitable material, for example plastic or steel, which at one end 10 .is attached to the suction pipe 3, and more precisely to the bend 4 of the pipe, and at the other end 11 to suitable fastening means on the suction funnel 6. A balancing plummet 12 is suspended on the line 9 between the ends thereof by means of a guide pulley 13 rotatably mounted on the plummet, and is dimensioned so as substantially to balance the mass of the hose 7 and of the funnel 6, thereby maintaining the funnel in the adjusted position. In addition, the line 9 passes over a guide means 14 which is mounted within the pipe bend 4 and has a sta-tionary deflector surface 15 for increasing the friction with the line, thus making the line run more slowly so as to prevent the funnel 6 from slowly moving upwardly or downwardly by its own force and/or under the influence of the elasticity of the hose 7.
In order further to increase the motional resistance, it is possible to provide, inside the hose, a telescopic device (now shown) which also serves as guide means for the funnel 6, such that the hose 7 is maintained in vertical alignment, and the funnel 6 is thus maintained in a vertical position below the downwardly directed portion of the pipe bend 4.
In an alternative embodiment, the line 9 has only one run~
i.e. in that it is attached at one end to the funnel 6 and at the other end to the balancing plummet 12, ~9~31 the portion of the line extending between its ends passing over a guide means which is mounted in the pipe bend and corresponds to the guide means 14.
In particular uses, for example when the suction hose 7 is of a considerable length and/or the suction funnel 6 is heavy, as may be the case when additional equipment, tools etc. are suspended in the funnel, the line may comprise more than one or two runs as defined above, e.g. four or six, there being then provided a corresponding number of guide means in the pipe bend and the funnel.
