Abstract

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE:

A continuous casting plant for wide strands has a supporting construction and rollers forming a strand guide path and each provided with annular recesses creating cylindrical bearing pins to be journaled in divided anti-friction bearings whose plane of division extends parallelly to the strand guide path; the anti-friction bearings are supported by the supporting construc-tion.

Description

.
The invention relates to a continuous casting plant with strand-guide-path-forming rollers for supporting, guiding and straightening or deforming a wide, continuously cast strand, in particular a steel slab having a width of more than 1,000 mm, wherein the roller bodies are provided with a number of annular recesses distributed over their longitudinal extension for form-ing cylindrical bearing pins which are arranged in bearings supported against the supporting construction.
Hitherto such one-piece rollers have been journaled by means of slide bearings in the strand guide structure. However, slide bearings require a great length of the bearings because of the high loads acting on the rollers, which results in relatively broad unsupported ranges of the cast strand. Since due to the high loads acting on the rollers also the diameter of the bearings and thus also o the rollers must not be below a certain minimum value, the distance between the axes of ad-jacently arranged rollers cannot be reduced to below a certain measure. Consequently, the strand surface can bul~e, whereby the extraction forces increase. Slide bearings have a relative-ly high friction, since they have to act mainly in the areas ofboundary friction and mixed friction due to the low number of revolutions of the rollers. This results in a strong increase in the force needed for extracting the strand.
The invention aims at avoiding these disadvantages and has as its object to provide a continuous casting plant of the above defined kind, which works with greater operational safety, and in which the extraction forces and the unsupported ranges of the cast strand are reduced.
According to the invention, these objects are achieved in that as bearings divided anti-friction bearings are provided, .

;2290 whose plane of division extends parallelly to the strand guide path.
Thus, the present invention provides in a continuous casting plant for a wide, continuously cast strand, with a supporting construction, rollers for supporting, guiding, straightening and deforming the strand, which rollers form a strand guide path, the rollers having roller bodies each provided with a plurality of annular recesses longitudinally distributed over the respective roller body for forming cylindrical bearing pins, and bearings supported by the supporting construction, the bearing pins being journaled in said bearings, the improvement ~hich is characterized in that the bearings are divided anti-friction bearings, and that the plane of division extends parallelly to the strand quide path.
According to an advantageous embodiment, the half of the outer race of the bearing which faces the strand guide is formed by a cover plate whose wall thickness is slighter than that of the outer race. Thus, bearings of a widqr diameter can be used, whereby the useful life is increased or rollers of a smaller diameter can be used, whereby the distance between the axes of neighbouxing rollers can be reduced.
The invention shall now be explainled in more detail by way of an exemplary eDbodiment and with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a longitudinal section through a roller and its bearing in a continuous casting plant, and Figure 2 is a section through the bearing of a roller along line II-II of Figure 1.
In Figure 1, a continuously cast slab is denoted by 1, which rests on a roller 2 or whose strand skin is supported by it, respectively. The rol-ler is provided with a number of annular recesses 3 along its longitudinal extension, whereby cylindrical bearing pins 4 are formed. Each bearing pin is surrounded by an anti-friction bearing 5, which is designed as pendulum B ~ -2 -. ~ . . ~ ~ . ... . . . ...

Z~'30 roller bearing in the example illustrated. Also other anti-friction bearings could be used. Each bearing is inserted in a housing part 6, which is each inserted in a corresponding recess 7 of the supporting construction 8 of the continuous casting plant. The housing parts arranged at the ends of the rol-ler are secured to the supporting construction 8 by wedge connections 9.
The pendulu~ roller bearings 5 are divided, the plane of division - as can be see~ from Fig~re 2 - extending parallelly ~=

the strand surface or parallelly to the strand guide path formed by the adjacently arranged rollers, respectively. The two halves 10' and 10" of the inner race 10 are connected with each other by screws not illustrated. The two-part cage 11 holding th~
bearing rollers 14 is also held together by screws not illustrated.
The half of the outer race 12 accommodating the load of the strand is inserted in the housing part 6 and fixed by the cover plate 13, which serves as protection for the bearing rollers 14 and also prevents the rollers supporting the strand at its upper side from falling out, in the housing part 8 by means of screws 15.
Non-illustrated cover plates arranged laterally of each bearing protect the bearing from dirt.
The wall thickness of the cover plate is slighter than the wall thickness of the half of the outer race accommodating the load. Thereby the structural height of the bearing is reduced, so that either a pendulum roller bear:Lng of as wide a diameter as possible having a correspondingly high loading capacity can be installed or a roller with a shorter diameter can be installed without the strand rubbing at the part: of the bearing facing the strand, even after a wear of the rollers. Since anti-friction bearings are used, the bearing pins can be shorter, because the struc~ural length of anti-friction bearings is shorter than that of slide bearings having an equal loading capacity.
