Abstract
ABSTRACT
A table with an undivided table top and with table top extensions; each extension comprising sliding bars, which are arranged for sliding on the top side of the table frame, and a pair of leaves, one on top of the other, the top leaf hinged to the bottom leaf so it can be swung about the bottom leaf to locate the leaves side by side; the frame having a cross-shaped member with a top plate and a bottom plate mounted there-on, the top and bottom plates smaller in size than the table top; the cross-shaped member guiding the horizontal movement of the sliding bars, between the top and bottom plates, by engaging their free ends, the bottom plate supporting the sliding bars with the leaves stored under the table top, the top plate and the frame supporting the sliding bars with the leaves pulled out from under the table top; the table top having a downwar-dly facing edge.

Description
Tlle invention relates to a table with an undivided table top and with table top extensions of the Dutch extension type. Each extension comprises sliding bars which are arranged for sliding on the top side of the table frame, and a pair of leaves, one on top of the o~her, the tQp leaf hinged to the bottom leaf so it can be swung about the bottom leaf to locate the leaves side by side.
The object of the invention is to provide a table of the above type, in which the edge of the extension leaves is concealed. Because of the fact that the curved shape of the leaves, and particularly their outer edge, differs from the outer edge of the table top, the table does not have a neat appearance when the edges of the leaves are visible.
The table according to the invention is characteri-sed in that the frame has a cross-shaped member with a top plate and a bottom plate mounted thereon of less extent than the diameter or transverse mmasurement of the table. The sli-ding bars are(located in such a manner between the top and bottom plates that the cDoss-shaped member guides the horizon-tal movement of the sliding bars by engaging their free ends. The bottom plate supports the sliding bars when the leaves are stored under the table top. The top plate and the frame sup-port the sliding bars when the leaves are pulled out from un-der the table top. The table top is provided with a downwardly facing edge.
It will be seen, that the downwardly facing edge of the table top, and the frame, together conceal the extension leaves in the stored position.
The invention will be explained more detailed with reference to the drawing, in which Figure 1 shows an embodiment of the table according to the invention with the table top removed, and --1-- ~, . ...
.
~0~318 Fig, 2 is a section, taken along line 2-2 of Fig. 1, with the table top in its place.
The table in the drawing, where the table legs have been left out, has a table top 11, which can be raised and low-ered, with a downwardly facing edge 70. The table also has a frame 40 with a cross-shape member 50, which carries a top plate 61 and a bottom plate 62. Between these plates 61, 62 are lo-cated sliding bars 1, which are characterized in being wide, thin, and forming an angle of 45~ with the arms of the cross-shaped mem-ber. The ends of the bars, which are guided in a horizontal direc-tion, rest against the arms of the cross-shaped member 50.
Thanks to the downwardly facing edge 70 of the table top, and the frame 40, the sets of overlying extension leaves 12, 13 are concealed to the viewer in the stored position. The leaves 12 and 13 are joined together at hinges 100 as shown in Fig. 1.
When stored they fold one on top of another as shown in Fig. 2.
In the embodiment shown the table height is a little higher with the leaves extended than with the leaves stored as appears from the right half of figure 2 as compared with the left half of the figure.
The table height can be kept invariable in both positions, if sliding bars of steel are used.
For the guidance of the extension leaves the frame is a little elevated between the two branches of the V-,shaped sliding bars.
