Description
101i1141~

The present invention relates to an assembly of optical fibers cn view of the manufacture of telecommunication cables ~
The optical fibers have a certain brittleness vis- ~ -vis mechanical stresses, whether these are lateral and cause micro-breaks or micro-bends leading to additional losses of transmission ~ or that they are longitudinal and that they cause also additional transmission losses ~ these may dye very high values in case of breakage.
The object of the invention is to provide a support allowing assembly into a Beam of several optical fibers while providing them with protection eP ~ icace against mechanical stresses which may be imposed on them when used in aes cablerie machines.
It relates to a central core ~ for the assembly of ~ ibres op-ticks consisting of a ~ bundle of ~ ibres arranged concentrically comprising:
- a core ~ bordered by a load-bearing element or rope made of a material located ~ traction ~ and a ~ low elongation ~ characterized in that it door in or ~ re ~
- a first sheath extruded around the core, made of a high modulus material elasticity improving the torsional strength of the core, - a second sheath extruded around the first, in a solid material ~ or cell with low elasticity module serving as a shock-absorbing mattress for say ~ twisted optic ibres long pitch around said second sheath.
The characteristics and advantages of the invention will emerge from the appended claims and the following description of an embodiment given as an example. This description will be ~ aite next to the drawing whose single figure represents, in section, a ~ fiber optic beam protected 1 assembly ~ es around a central core con ~ elm to 1 'invention.
The central core has a core2 surrounded by two concentric sheaths triques 3 and 4. Ll ^ ame 2 is a load-bearing element. It is made in the form of a rope in a material r ~ sis.ant good in traction and low 10 ~ 114 ~
elongation such as aromatic polyamide hairs, glass iber or carbon or metallic strands in the event that no one is looking for not immunity from electromagnetic influences. This soul supports te the longitudinal tensile forces exerted on the fiber bundle optics, and its dimensions are chosen accordingly. The internal sheath 3 which comes into contact with the core 2 is a high modulus extrudable material of elasticity such as a polyamide, a polyethylene terephthalate or a high density polyethylene ~ It con ~ era of rigidity to ~ me 2 and allows the central core to resist the torsional force imposed on it when the optical ibres constituting the beam are wrapped around it in the same direction ~ with a long step and under low voltage.
The outer sheath 4 extruded around the inner sheath 3 is cons-made of a solid or cellular material with a low modulus of elasticity such than low density polyethylene ~ flexible polyvinyl chloride or copolymer ethylene and vinyl ~ It forms a mattress and absorbs pressure side can be exerted on the optical fibers.
A number of elements are arranged around the sheath 4 ~
constituted by ~ optical ibres in whole or in part in the latter cases ~ the ~ elements ~ not used ~ s for transmission are constituted by jams ~ in metallic, plastic or composite wires.
The diameter of the certral nucleus is chosen according to that of the elements constituting the bundle, and their number. That of the first sheath is a function of the torsional resistance of the core which is necessary read and which results from the torsional efPort applied by the elements on the core when assembled.
As an example of an assembly of 18 fibers, the diameter of the core 2 is 0.7 millimeter, the thickness of the internal sheath 3 is 1 ~ 6 millimeter, the thickness of the outer sheath 4 is 0.3 millimeter. The diameter of each of the protected optical fibers is 0.5 millimeter. The no winding of these fibers is about 400 millim ~ very.
The bundle formed by the different elements, including the fibers
