"PORTADOR DE GRAVAçãO óPTICA, E, APARELHO PARA EXPLORAR O MESMO" Um portador de gravação tem trilhas paralelas para gravar informações de usuário em uma configuração de marcador opticamente detectáveis, as trilhas sendo munidas de informações de controle. As trilhas são agrupadas em pares de trilhas vizinhas. As informações de controle em ambas as trilhas de um par são idênticas e as informações de controle sobre trilhas de diferentes pares são diferentes. A identidade das informações de controle reduz o efeito de diafonia sobre as trilhas vizinhas.
