Um portador de gravação óptica (1) é munido de trilhas tendo uma ranhura (4) ondulada numa direção radial e posições predeterminadas (18) ao longo da trilha. Microcavidades gravadas em relevo (19) nas posições predeterminadas, representam informações de endereçamento. A fase da ondulação próxima às posições predeterminadas depende do fato da presença de uma microcavidade (19) sobre uma posição predeterminada ou não (20).
