A presente invenção é um processo para remover um metal iónico com carga +2 de uma alimentação de petroléo. O processo inclui contactar a alimentação com uma resina que inclui grupos carboxila, sulfónico e/ou fosfónico. Numa versão preferida, o metal é um metal do Grupo II. Em particular, o metal é o cálcio.
