Abstract
(i) Wood chips are chemically digested to provide lignocellulosic pulp followed by e.g. washing and screening (ii) pulp is then O2 delignified and (iii) comminuted and O3 treated for further delignification and bleaching. Pulp prod. obtd. in (iii) can be further brightened by addn. of CO2 or a peroxide. Typically at end of step (ii) pulps have a K number of 10 or less and viscosity above 13cps.. Corresp. values at completion of (iii) are 5 or less and above 10cps.. Digestion in (i) is e.g. by Kraft pulping. Pulp pH in (iii) is pref. 1-4 and temp. is ambient.
