método e aparelho para calcinação de alumina. um aparelho melhorado para calcinar tri-hidróxido de alumínio (al(oh)3) com vapor para produzir alumina (al2o3) é descrito. o aparelho compreende um pré-aquecedor de al(oh)3 configurado para aquecer uma matéria-prima de al(oh)3 contatando a mesma com vapor. o pré-aquecedor de al(oh)3 compreende pelo menos um separador de gás-sólido para separar al(oh)3 pré-aquecido do vapor carreador. o aparelho compreende adicionalmente um calcinador configurado para aceitar al(oh)3 pré-aquecido do pré-aquecedor de al(oh)3 e para produzir al2o3 aquecido pela calcinação com vapor. o aparelho também compreende um resfriador de al2o3 configurado para remover calor do al2o3 aquecido e produzir o produto de al2o3. o resfriador de al2o3 compreende pelo menos um separador de gás-sólido. o aparelho compreende adicionalmente um compressor de vapor em comunicação fluídica com o pré-aquecedor de al(oh)3, o calcinador e o resfriador de al2o3 e configurado para aceitar e pressurizar vapor carreador.
