Abstract
é apresentado um elemento de empacotamento estruturado com corrugação cruzada, para uso em colunas de transferência de massa ou de troca de calor. o elemento de empacotamento tem uma pluralidade de camadas de empacotamento posicionadas de maneira paralela e vertical umas em relação às outras, e incluindo corrugações formadas por picos e vales alternados e paredes laterais de corrugação que se estendem entre os picos e os vales. o elemento de empacotamento inclui também uma pluralidade de aberturas, cada qual apresentando uma área aberta. as aberturas são distribuídas de modo que as paredes laterais de corrugação têm uma densidade de áreas abertas maior do que qualquer densidade das áreas abertas que possam estar presentes nos picos e vales. algumas das aberturas podem estar presentes nos picos e nos vales para facilitar a distribuição de líquidos. as aberturas podem também ser colocadas em fileiras ou em outros padrões que são alinhados em uma direção ao longo de um comprimento longitudinal das corrugações.
