Abstract

A presente invenção se refere a um método que inclui receber uma imagem de uma mamografia, removendo o ruído da imagem, criando assim uma imagem sem ruído, computando um ponto de interesse na imagem sem ruído, criando uma região de mesoescala de interesse na imagem sem ruído, calculando um conectividade para a região de mesoescala de interesse, identificando um componente conectado usando a conectividade computada, onde o componente conectado representa um ramo de uma estrutura curvilínea global, selecionando um conjunto de ramificações baseadas em uma propriedade física para cada ramo da estrutura curvilínea global, poda cada ramo baseado em um ajuste polinomial adaptativo tolerante a erros, identificando regiões remanescentes de interesse em cada ramo podado, e cultivando uma cadeia formada pelos demais pontos de interesse incluídos nas demais regiões de interesse, onde a cadeia representa um curvilíneo macroscópico, global estrutura arterial calcificada. Num aspecto da invenção, a quantificação das estruturas arteriais calcificadas pode ser utilizada como um biomarcador para a estratificação de risco de doença cardíaca.
