Fig. 1 shows an inventive embodiment of a beverage crate 10. In the embodiment shown, the base 12 is not configured to extend continuously over the entire surface area, but consists of an interlaced structure. As can be seen from the bottom view of the crate of fig. 3, the base 12 is formed by a plurality of bars, or ridges. They are arranged in a sufficiently dense manner, so that the goods to be transported, for example, the bottle, cannot fall through the base of the crate or tip over in an uncontrolled manner when the rim of a bottle tilts towards one of the cavities between the ridges.

The embodiment of a crate 10, shown in fig. 1, further comprises a removable side wall area 23 which is pivoted via joints 24a to 24c with respect to a first stationary side wall 16b. In addition, the side walls 14a and 14b contiguous to the first side wall 16b comprise tapered edge areas 30a and 30b at their ends pointing to the first side wall, through which the light from edge areas can shine on the crates even when they are stacked on top of each other. In the embodiment shown in fig. 1, these ends of the side walls 14a and 14b which are contiguous to the first side wall 16b thus have heights less than their opposite ends. It is self-evident that even so, in the embodiment shown in fig. 1, the recessed part of the side wall is essentially triangular, any other recess shapes can also be used for alternative embodiments. In some embodiments, the height of the side walls 14a and 14b contiguous to the first side wall 16b increases continuously up to the maximum height. The crate shown in fig. 1 is stackable, that is, the contours of the upper ends of the side walls 14a, 14b and 16a are configured in such a way that, when stacked, they will engage with the contour or the base structure of another crate (see fig. 3, for example), so that the crates can be stacked on top of each other. However, the side opening defined by the first side wall 16b makes it possible to recover bottles or bottle marketing units such as packages with five units inside the crate, even if the last one is stacked.

In some embodiments of the invention, the face facing the side walls 14a, 14b and 16a are provided with a light color, so that, due to the incidence of light caused by the openings 30a and 30b, the bottles inside the crate will be clearly visible to the observer watching from the outside. In alternative embodiments, the faces are lined with product or advertisement information.

The embodiment of the invention that is shown in fig. 1 further comprises, on at least one of the side walls (in the case shown here, on the side wall 14b), a plurality of ridges 32a to 32d which run in the vertical direction and project inwards from a side face and which prevent the retained bottles by the mandrels inside the crate to come into contact with the side wall with all its side faces, and to dirty a large area of said side face. In addition to the mandrels, which engage the packages with five units from below - the packages with five units being opened at the bottom for this purpose -, the packages with five units are also retained by the ridges 40a and 40b that are arranged on the base 12 of the crate 10, as shown in fig. 1.

As it becomes clear from the visualization of fig. 3, which shows two crates 10 and 10a in a stacked state, products or bottles can be recovered from the lower crate 10 even in the stacked state. Of course, this also applies to packages with five units 40a, 40b and 40c when they are transported and / or presented inside the crates as an alternative option to individual bottles. As is evident from figs. 2 and 3, the specific embodiment of a crate that is shown in fig. 1 has a high level of flexibility with respect to the bottles to be transported, since it is possible, with the crate, to transport packages with five units, on the one hand, and individual bottles, on the other hand. This results from the arrangement, shown in fig. 1, chucks 22a and 22b and ridges 42a and 42b.

It is self-evident that in other embodiments of crate 10, the arrangement of chucks can be selected differently. For example, in some embodiments, the ridges can be completely dispensed with, and instead, only mandrels can be employed. However, in the embodiment depicted in fig. 1, both are possible, since each individual bottle inserted in one of the clearances between mandrels and / or ridges is supported, in four directions in each case, either by a side wall of a ridge, by a mandrel, or by one of the side walls 14a, 14b, 16a, or 16b of the crate, so that it is stable for transport.

As is clear from fig. 3, it is now possible, due to the stacking capacity of the crates and due to the possibility of lateral recovery that is provided by the first side wall 16b, to offer different products for sale in a stacked crate column. In cooperation with the mandrels, the side wall 16b prevents the bottles from tilting out of the crate 10 during transport, which is why the side wall 6b is dimensioned in such a way that it will prevent tipping out of the box during transport. At the same time, however, it remains low enough for the bottles to be able to be retrieved from the crate in the front direction, even if another crate 10a is located on top of the crate 10. According to some embodiments, for this purpose, the bottles

12/23 may initially be slightly elevated and then be tilted out in the front direction. In some embodiments, this is made possible by a particular configuration of the mandrels, as will be described in more detail below with reference to fig. 12.

Afig. 3 clearly shows another property of some embodiments of the present invention, namely, the particular configuration of the handle openings 28a and 28b. The handle opening is curved and extends both horizontally and vertically. In other words, the handle opening 28a comprises an opening area 50a extending parallel to the base 12 and a second opening area 50b extending essentially in the vertical direction 18. The demarcation between the vertical and horizontal opening areas in fig . 3 is to be understood as merely an example. Thus, the handle opening 28a also extends with significant expansion in the vertical direction, so that the handle opening 28a can be used by a person also in the vertical opening area. In alternative embodiments of the invention, the handle opening 28a can of course also be shaped differently than in the embodiment shown in fig. 3. For example, it can also have a square or rectangular cross section, so that the crate can be raised from the top through the horizontal opening area 50a and from the side through the vertical opening area 50b.

In the embodiment shown in fig. 3, the vertical opening area is located on that side that is associated with the first side wall 16b, and it merges into the horizontal opening area 50a on the outer contour (i.e. the contour pointing towards the first sidewall) with a great lightning. In some embodiments of the invention, the base 12 is not formed to have a complete surface, but is formed by an arrangement of reinforcements in order to save weight and facilitate cleaning. As is also clear from fig. 4, the base 12 has - in the area adjacent to the side walls 14a, 14b and 16a- an elevation consisting of several reinforcements whose contours are configured in such a way that they will engage, within the side walls, in the contour of the side walls of another crate when the crate is placed on said other crate, in order to ensure stackability and a safe position in the stacked state.

In addition, the base of the crate has a bar 52 in its center, this bar 52 extends from the side wall 16a to the first side wall 16b, and whose ridges have a greater expansion in the vertical direction than the remaining ridges of the base. Said bar 52 serves to additionally support the first side wall 16b, which has a relatively low height, in order to increase the stability of the crate. The bar 52 is centrally arranged, so that the bar, which extends lower than the remaining base, will not prevent removal of the bottles from the lower crate in the stacked state.

Fig. 5 shows another embodiment of the present invention, which differs from the embodiments discussed by means of the preceding figures essentially in that, with the embodiment shown in fig. 5, other bottle sizes can be transported. Although the embodiment shown in fig. 1 is adapted for bottles with 0.5 I content, the embodiment of a crate that is shown in fig. 5 is adapted to bottles with a content of 0.33 I. Therefore, the embodiment of fig. 5 differs from the embodiment of fig. 1 essentially in the arrangement of the mandrels and in the thickness of the side walls 14a, 14b and 16a, which have been changed in order to keep the bottles arranged inside the crate given the same external volume as the crate. For example, the crate shown in fig. 5 comprises five mandrels 54a, 54b, 54c, 54d and 54e, for example, which adjoin the first side wall 16b, in order to maintain a total of six bottles of 0.33 I content in the first row. In addition, the crate of the fig. 5 has only one continuous ridge 56 in the center of the crate, so alternatively,

14/23 four packages with five units can be transported using the crate.

Unlike the embodiments of figs. 1 to 4, the embodiment of fig. 5, furthermore, shows the crate with a removable side wall area folded up 23 on the first side wall 16b. Since, in addition, the design characteristics of the crate of fig. 5 correspond to those of fig. 1 and have identical functionalities in each case, renewed discussion of the components that correspond to those of the crate of fig. 1 will be waived. In addition, it is important to mention that the crate shown in fig. 5, as well as the crate shown in fig. 1, has at least one opening 58 in the side wall 16a opposite the first side wall 16b, said opening 58 extending through the side wall 16a, so that the crate can be attached or suspended on a wall or a shelf or similar through the opening.

To increase the security of the display, each of the embodiments shown in figs. 1 and 5 additionally have an optional second display opening 60.

The embodiment shown in fig. 6 is also configured to carry 24 bottles with a content of 0.33 I each, and largely corresponds to the embodiment shown in fig. 5. However, in the embodiment of fig. 5, the side walls 14a, 14b and 16a, or at least parts of the side walls 14a, 14b and 16a, are arranged to be foldable by means of articulations with respect to the base. They are foldable in such a way that they can be folded towards the base and will be essentially parallel to the base in a folded down state, as shown in fig. 7 for the side wall 16a, which in the folded-down state is parallel to the surface of the base 12. Fig. 8 shows all side walls 14a, 14b and 16a in the folded-down state, so that in the folded-up state the crate can be readily transported back to the brewery or to a bottling company without consuming a lot of storage space. This can reduce transport costs considerably.

Although, with reference to figs. 6 to 8, the folding side walls 14a, 14b and 16a are shown only for a crate that is configured to transport 24 bottles of 0.33 I each, it is self-evident that the crate for 0.5 I bottles, which is shown in fig . 1, it can also be equipped with folding side walls. In general, in all embodiments presented here, the features described or shown through the individual embodiments can be mutually combined in a desired manner, in order to obtain other alternative embodiments of inventive crates.

Fig. 9 illustrates the embodiment of fig. 5 in the loaded state, where there will be 24 bottles in the crate.

Similar to fig. 5, in this case, too, the removable side wall area 23 is

15/23 in the open-folded position, in order to additionally secure the bottles in the frontmost row, or affix product designations for transport on the outer surface of the flexible part 23, which are not relevant for the presentation of the goods.

Fig. 10 shows the embodiment of fig. 5 with an alternative way of loading, namely, four packages with five units 70a, 70b, 70c and 70d.

Fig. 11, finally, shows a top view of the embodiment of fig. 5, it being obvious that the chuck 54c has a different geometry from the chucks 54a, 54b and 54d or 54e, in order to allow insertion of packages with five units. In alternative embodiments, however, the central mandrel 54c may, of course, have the same shape as the remaining mandrels, such as mandrel 54a, for example. Likewise, any other chucks can be shaped like chuck 54c.

As can be understood from the top view in fig. 11, even in the case of crates designed for 24 beverage bottles, the base 12 is designed, in the area 50 contiguous to the first side wall 16, with a support surface larger than the average support surface of the entire base, in order to prevent the bottles from accidentally falling out of the crate.

Fig. 12 shows an enlarged representation of the mandrels 54a to 54c so that their specific shapes can be seen, which, in cooperation with the first side wall 16b, make it possible to maintain the bottles both in a firm manner and in such a way that they can be recovered in the front direction. To achieve this, some mandrel embodiments have an outer surface whose height is not constant in the vertical direction 18. The hatch area 70 must be understood as the outer bounding surface of mandrel 54a, that is, that area or those area elements that delimit laterally the mandrel, that is, in all directions orthogonal to the vertical direction 18.

The outer boundary surface 70 has a variable height, as already described. The mandrel is less high in a first side face area 75 extending in parallel to the first side wall 16b and holding a bottle in the back direction (in direction 72 pointing away from the first side wall 16b) that it is in a second side face area 76 securing the bottle against tilting in a direction 74 parallel to the first side wall 16b.

With mandrel 54a shown in fig. 12, which has an essentially diamond-shaped cross section, one end of which points towards the first side wall 16b, the function of preventing backward tilting is thus performed by a first area of bounding surface 75, which essentially closes the mandrel in the direction parallel to the first side wall 16b. A second area of bounding surface 76 delimiting the

16/23 mandrel 54b towards the first side wall 16b prevents tilting of the bottles in parallel to the first side wall 16b.

The first side face area 75 is smaller than the second side face area 76, in order to allow tilting when the bottles are tilted forward without having to raise the bottle to such an extent that it possibly already touches the base of another crate stacked on top of the crate in question.

The second bounding surface area 76, however, prevents tilting in the direction parallel to the first side wall 16b and, therefore, can be higher in order to increase stability. In general, both chucks 54a and 54b and chuck 54c result in maximum stability while at the same time allowing outward tilt towards the front, where the chucks have a lower height in the direction parallel to the side wall than in the direction perpendicular to the side wall.

In addition, the mandrels in fig. 12 are provided with external bounding subareas that are concave inwardly curved between the tips of the basic shape essentially diamond-shaped, the radius of curvature corresponding essentially to the diameter of a bottle, in order to be able to still hold the bottle firmly.

With reference to figs. 13 and 14, another embodiment of the invention will be described below, according to which a crate as defined, for example, with reference to figs. 1 to 12 is provided with another element, a locking element, which serves as transport protection, for example. Fig. 13 shows a crate that corresponds essentially to the crate of fig. 1, so that a repeated description of the various elements already described with reference to fig. 1 will be waived. As can be seen, the crate of fig. 13 (a) further includes a locking element 100 comprising a support 102 having two opposite ends. A first end 102a of support 102 has a first bar 104 disposed therein, and a second end 102b of support 102 has a second bar 106 disposed thereon. These ends 104a and 106a of the bars 104, 106a, said ends facing away from the support 102, are rotationally mounted on opposite side faces or end faces 14a and 14b. In the situation shown in fig. 13 (a), the locking element or transport protection element 100 is in a position located between a first position and a second position. The crate shown in fig. 13 (a) is again shown in fig. 13 (b), but now in the locking element 100 in a first position, where the support 102 extends between the side walls 14a and 14b, said support 102 being disposed at a distance from the lower side wall 16b. In the embodiment shown in fig. 13 (b), support 102 is at half the height of the side walls 14a and 14b, however, the present invention is not limited to this arrangement. Instead, support

102 may be willing to be either taller or shorter, depending on the circumstances. The bars 104 and 106 are configured and assembled in such a way that, when the support 102 is turned downwards from the position shown in fig. 13 (a) to the position shown in fig. 13 (b), the support 102 assumes a desired distance from the bottom bottom side wall 16b. As can be seen from fig. 13 (b), the side walls 14a and 14b, or those surfaces of said two end walls that face the lower side wall 16b, are structured to receive the bars 104 and 106, as well as that area where the support 102 it is connected to the bars 104 and 106, that is, to the opposite ends 102a and 102b of the support 102, in recesses or cavities, in such a way that it will result in a level front face.

Fig. 14 shows a stacked arrangement of a crate in fig. 1 in which a crate of fig. 13 is arranged, the situation shown here being one in which the support 102 is arranged in a second position, in which it is arranged to overlap with the low sidewall 14b. As can be seen, the low side wall 16b is also structured by recesses or free spaces to receive the support 102 in the second position shown in fig. 14, so that it will result in a flush front face of the side wall 16b.

As can also be seen from figs. 13 (b) and 14, the opposite ends 102a and 102b of the support 102 are configured in such a way that in the first position, which is shown in fig. 13 (b), they will surround the corresponding side wall 14a and 14b, in order to guarantee locking and firm positioning of the support 102. Similarly, in the position shown in fig. 14, the firm positioning of the support 102 is achieved as the corresponding engaging elements formed in the low wall engage the support 102.

The advantage of this embodiment is that an additional transport protection element has now been provided, which is arranged, during transport, in the position shown in fig. 13 (b), and thus may have an impact on products located within the crate, in order to prevent movement of the crate towards the opening, in other words, providing an additional barrier against falling products. The support is connected to the side or end faces of the crate in a rotational manner, and can be moved from the closed position shown in fig. 13 (b) for the open position in a simple way, so that free access to the products located inside the crate is possible.

The invention is not limited to the examples described by means of figs. 13 and 14; on the contrary, instead of arranging support 102 at approximately half the height of the side walls, a different position can also be selected, for example, the distance from the low wall 16b can be selected to be equivalent to one third of the

18/23 height of the side walls or two thirds of the height of the side walls. In addition, provision can be made, according to one embodiment, to configure the bars 104 and 106 as a telescope, in order to position the support 102, starting from the situation in fig. 14, at different heights along the height of the side walls, so that the height of the locking element 102 can be adjusted flexibly and depending on the products located within the crate.

Through figs. 15 and 16, another embodiment of the invention will be described below, fig. 15 showing a crate that has already been described with reference to fig. 1, but differs with respect to the configuration of the base 12. In the crate shown in fig. 15, an insert 112 is provided, which is arranged at the base of the crate so as to be detachable from it. Insert 112 shown in fig. 16 includes an upper surface 112a on which a first bar 114 is shown, which extends in parallel to the opposite end walls 14a and 14b over the entire depth of the crate to the rear wall 16a. Another bar, the crossbar 116, is provided, which extends from the side wall 14a approximately halfway up the height of the crate to the first bar 114. Insert 112 can be supplied, for example, to receive products packaged in boxes of cardboard and having dimensions corresponding to the resulting compartments in insert 112. In addition to these products, any products can be supplied to be received in the crate according to fig. 16, it is also possible, according to the invention, for several inserts 112 to be arranged prominently within the crate.

Through fig. 16, some examples of the implementation of the inserts 112 will be discussed, being possible, for example, that the surface 112a in fig. 16 (a) is provided with rectangular and circular depressions, so as to simultaneously receive products with a corresponding contact surface. Similar to fig. 15, fig. 16 (b) shows the arrangement of bars on the top surface 112a of insert 112, and according to fig. 16 (c), mandrels may be provided on the top surface 112a, similarly to that described with reference to figs. 1 to 12. Fig. 16 (d) shows a bottom surface 112b of insert 112, elements 118a to 118d arranged in the corners being shown, which serve to engage corresponding elements or recesses in the base 12 of the crate, said elements 118 being preferably configured in such a way that , following locking with the crate base, detachment of the crate base is possible only using special tools, so that a crate supplier can adapt the crates to the customer in different ways as desired by the customers without the customers using the crate having the possibility of replacing the insert for use with other products. In this way, the crates can be tailored according to the demands of the customers, and in particular, it is possible to react

19/23 flexibly increased demand for crates with specific inserts while, at the same time, crates for other products are not in such high demand.

Embodiments of the invention will be explained below in more detail with reference to the crates of figs. 13 and 14. According to said embodiments, the locking element of the crates shown in figs. 13 and 14 comprises a locking element having a movable component in order to ensure secure locking of the locking element in its closed position.

Fig. 17 shows a section of a crate according to a first embodiment, fig. 17 (a) showing a front representation of the left side of the crate of fig. 13 (b). It will be noted at this point that the right side of the crate is not shown for simplicity, but can be configured to correspond to the left side. Fig. 17 (b) shows a sectional representation to illustrate the locking mechanism.

As can be seen in fig. 17 (a), the locking element 102 includes a support 102 which differs from the support shown in fig. 13 in that the support includes two bars 102c and 102d extending between the opposite side walls 14a and 14b (see fig. 13). The ends of the bars 102c and 102d are integrally connected to the vertical bars 104 and 106, respectively, so that a locking element corresponding to the locking element shown in fig. 13 is obtained. It will be appreciated that the embodiments of the invention are not limited to this configuration of the locking element 100 - on the contrary, a locking element in the form of the locking element shown in fig. 13 that has only one support bar can also be used; alternatively, more than two support bars can be used. The crate further includes a locking mechanism 200 arranged, in the embodiment shown in fig. 17 (a), on the support 102, more specifically, on the support bar 102c adjacent to the side wall 14a. The locking mechanism 200 includes a drive element 202 and a housing 204, in which the remaining elements of the mechanism are accommodated. The drive element 202 is removable in the horizontal direction, in order to drive a tongue, arranged inside the housing, as described below.

Fig. 17 (b) shows details of the locking mechanism of fig. 17 (a). As can be seen, the locking mechanism includes a tongue element 206 which is horizontally removable, as illustrated by the arrow in fig. 17 (b). The locking element 206 is removably mounted inside the housing 204 and is provided, via a spring 208, to the position shown in fig. 17 (b). The drive element 202 is effectively connected to the tongue element 206 so as to effect, by means of a corresponding horizontal movement, a movement of the tongue element 206 from the position shown in fig. 17 (b) to a position driven back to the right. The wall

Lateral 20/23 14a includes a recess 210, in which the tongue element 206 is arranged in its first position shown in fig. 17 (b). In this position, the locking element 100 is locked in the position shown in fig. 17 (a) and in fig. 13 (b). Because of the tongue element 206, which is located within the recess 210, a movement of the locking element 100 to the position shown in fig. 13 (a) is prevented. To allow such a rotational movement, it is necessary to remove the tongue 206 from the position shown in fig. 17 (b) driving the element 202 against the spring force of the spring 208. Once a corresponding distance has been covered by the driving element 202 by means of the tongue, said element will be located outside the recess 210, and turn the locking element down, for example, to the position shown in fig. 13, is made possible or allowed.

The advantage of the inventive configuration is that a secure positioning of the locking element in the first position of the same is now achieved, which prevents, in particular, during transport, unintentional opening of the element and thus of the products contained within the container from falling out. The use of such a locking mechanism with a removable element is advantageous compared to a pure locking latch, since secure locking is achieved in this way. In the event of locking, the locking element may open as a result of impacts or shocks to which the crate is exposed, or as a result of movements of goods within the crate.

With reference to fig. 18, an alternative embodiment of the configuration of the locking mechanism is described. In the embodiment shown in fig. 18, the locking mechanism includes a vertical tongue element instead of the horizontal tongue element known from fig. 17. As shown in fig. 18 (a), the locking mechanism 200 is disposed within the locking element and includes a vertically movable drive element 202. FIG. 18 (b) shows a side sectional representation of a section of the side wall, the viewing angle being from the side towards the side wall. In the embodiment shown in fig. 18 (b), locking element, or latch element, 206 is removably disposed within a recess 212 of the locking element. The tongue element 206 is vertically removable, as shown by the arrow, and is extended to the position shown in fig. 18 (a) by a spring 208. The side wall 14a includes the recess 210 with which the tongue element 206 engages in its position shown in fig. 18 (b), so that movement of the locking element in the direction of the curved arrow is prevented. The latch element 210 is effectively connected to the drive element 202, so that a downward movement of it results in the latch element being moved down against the spring force of the spring 208 and will eventually come out of the recess 210 , in order to allow a movement of the locking element in the direction of the curved arrow of fig. 18 (b).

Fig. 19 shows another embodiment of the invention, which is similar to the embodiment shown in fig. 18, in which, however - contrary to fig. 18 - the active elements of the locking mechanism are arranged within the side wall 14a. As shown in fig. 19 (a), the locking mechanism 200 includes the drive element 202, which is arranged in an upper portion of the side wall 14a. Fig. 19 (b) shows a sectional representation similar to that of fig. 18 (b). As can be seen, the locking element 206 is now disposed within the recess 210 in the side wall 14a and is inclined, by means of the spring 208, in the direction pointing downwards in fig. 19 (b). It can be moved vertically by means of the driving element 202, which is effectively connected to the tongue element 206, as shown by the double arrow in fig. 19 (b). The tongue element 206 is shown in the proposed position, where it engages the recess 212 present in the locking element, so that movement of the locking element in the direction of the curved arrow is avoided.

As can be seen, the side wall 14a and, likewise, the other side wall 14b, which is not shown in any other detail in figs. 17 to 19, include a narrow surface 220 facing the low sidewall 16b and including a first portion of surface 220a spaced from the lower sidewall 16b, and a second portion of surface 220b disposed between the low sidewall 16b and the first portion of surface 220a, this second portion of surface 220b is placed back towards the rear wall 16b with respect to the first surface portion 220a, so that surface 220 of side wall 14a which faces the low wall 16b has a projection 222 According to embodiments, the side wall 14a is configured in such a way that the surface portions 220a and 220b are mutually offset, such that the locking element in its first position abuts the second surface portion 220b, the projection 222 being dimensioned in such a way that the first surface portion 220a of the wall 14a and a surface of the locking element which faces the lower wall x to 6b are leveled - if the locking element is in the first position - in order to provide an essentially level front surface of the side walls of the crate.

It will be noted at this point that the inventive locking mechanism is not limited to the mechanisms described by means of figs. 17 to 19; on the contrary, they can also be implemented differently. For example, in the case of horizontal locking elements, a shared drive element can be provided along the length of one of the support bars, a suitable gear mechanism being additionally integrated, which performs a movement of the drive element in movements opposites of the two tongue elements effectively connected to it, so that when the tongue element is

22/23 direction, the tongue elements 206 that cooperate with the two opposite side faces 14a and 14b are unlocked. Likewise, the horizontal tongue mechanism can be built into one of the support bars, a corresponding release mechanism either as part of the support bar or as part of the side wall.

Fig. 20 shows another embodiment of a locking mechanism according to the present invention. The locking element 100 includes a recess 230 in the area in which the support bars 102c and 102d are connected to the vertical bar 104. In the embodiment shown, the recess is located between the upper support bar 102c and the lower support bar 102d. In other embodiments, the recess can also be provided in different positions. In addition, the side wall 14a includes a hook-shaped projection 232, which in the direction of the low side wall 16b, i.e. in the front direction, projects beyond the second surface portion 220b of the side wall 14a. In fig. 20, the locking element 100 is shown in its first position, in which it closes the opening defined between the side walls 14a and 14b. In this position, the bars 104, 106 of the locking element 100 abut the surface portion 220b of the narrow surface 220 of the side wall 14a, as has been briefly explained by means of fig. 19 (b). Unlike the embodiments described so far, in the embodiments described with reference to fig. 20 the locking element 100 is not rotationally mounted, but also vertically removable. In the closed position shown in fig. 20, the hook portion of the projection 232 covers an external surface of the bar 104 through the recess 230, so that the locking element 100 is prevented from moving forward to its open position. The locking element 100 is arranged, in its first position, such that there is a gap 234 between the support 102 and the projection 222 of the side wall 14a.

In order to prevent, during the transport of the crate, an upward vertical movement from the locking element 100 to the gap 234 and thus preventing unlocking, a removable element 236 is additionally provided, which is arranged, on the upper support bar 102c , to be rotationally removable on an axis 238, so as to be able to be moved between the position shown in fig. 20 and another position. The removable element 236 includes a portion 240 that is disposed within the gap 234 and is removed from the gap 234 by a rotational movement of the removable element about the axis 238. As long as the portion 240 is located within the gap 234, vertical movement of the element 100 and thus, its unlocking, or detachment of the element 100 of the hook-shaped projection 232, is prevented. In order to allow the locking element 100 to open, the removable element 234 is rotated to remove the portion 240 of the gap 234, thus a vertical upward movement of the locking element is made possible, thus the hook-shaped projection 232 will release the locking element 100, so that the latter can be turned downwards.

Fig. 21 shows a side sectional representation illustrating the configuration of the projection 232. As can be seen, the projection includes a hook-shaped portion 232, the locking element 104 being configured, in the corresponding position, to engage with said projection 232a. Alternatively, the projection 232 can also extend outwardly along the thickness of the locking element 104, so that the portion 232a will engage with an outer surface of the locking element. A movement of the locking element within the gap 234 results in the engagement of the projection 232a with the outer surface 104a of the locking element 104 so that a movement of the locking element in the direction of the curved arrow shown in fig. 21 is made possible. If such a movement is not desired, the locking element is secured in the position shown in fig. 21 by means of the element shown in fig. 20, and because the portion 240 of the removable element 236 is disposed within the gap 234, upward vertical movement of the element is no longer possible.

Although the embodiments of the present invention have been discussed above primarily in the context of beverage crates, other embodiments of the present invention can of course also be used for other types of products. For example, beverage cans, as well as any other cylindrical objects, such as hair sprayers or the like, can be transported using the inventive crates. In addition, crates with side openings are also suitable for totally different types of products, which can also deviate from a basic cylindrical shape. The crates can be used universally for all types of products, as they allow the products to be removed laterally from the crate, even in the stacked state. This main advantage is not limited to the type of goods transported.

Claims (32)

1. Crate, comprising: a base (12); at least two pairs of mutually opposed side walls (14a, 14b, 16a, 16b), a first of said side walls (16b) extending upwards from the base (12) in a vertical direction (18) at least partially by a recovery height only (20) that is less than the height of one or more of the remaining side walls (14a, 14b, 16a) in order to define a dimensioned side opening to allow access and recovery of products contained within the crate through the side opening; a locking element (100) which extends between the two opposite side walls (14a, 14b) adjoining the first side wall (16b) and which is removable between a first position and a second position, the locking element (100) being arranged, in the first position, between the opposite side walls (14a, 14b) and at a distance from the first side wall (16b), and the locking element (100) being arranged, in the second position, to overlap the first wall lateral (16b); and a locking mechanism (200) comprising a removable element (202, 206; 236) configured to engage the opposite side walls (14a, 14b) and / or the locking element (100) in order to lock the locking element ( 100), in its first position, with opposite side walls (14a, 14b), characterized in that the locking element (100) includes a support (102, 102c, 102d), a first bar (104) disposed at a first end (102a) of the support (102, 102c, 102d), and a second bar (106) disposed on a second end (102b) of the support (102, 102c, 102d), where these ends of the bar (104, 106) they are facing away from the support (102, 102c, 102d) are arranged on the opposite side walls (14a, 14b) in a rotational manner. 2.
