The proposed method inhibits the recolonization of the area from the growth of seedlings from the existing seed bank and seeds from nearby areas, preventing weeds from reestablishing themselves very quickly and allowing total control of their establishment and growth; for this purpose, its application starts with the cleaning (E1) of the area, followed by the application of the geomembrane (1) and the geotextile blanket, which is covered with stones of specific granulometry (3 and 4) and, in areas of greater slope, reno mattress (6) and brown stones (7) are still used.
Description
This application for patents for invention deals with an unprecedented “WED MANAGEMENT METHOD” that describes a weed management methodology aimed at the use of geomembranes and geotextile blankets associated with stones, for total control of the establishment and weed growth in places where there is a need for complete absence of vegetation.
The present invention belongs to the human needs section; to the field of agriculture, more specifically to manual implements; because it is a weed management method.
Como principais características, essas plantas apresentam: rápido crescimento; alta capacidade de florescimento e produção de sementes; habilidade de dispersão e adaptação às práticas de manejo; tolerância à variação ambiental; plasticidade fenotípica; germinação assincrônica; formação de raças fisiológicas e ainda, nenhuma exigência para germinar.[003] Weeds are those that colonize and dominate the initial stage of a plant succession, they adapt very easily to the edaphoclimatic conditions created by man, which makes their survival and dispersion possible (EMBRAPA). As main characteristics, these plants present: fast growth; high flowering capacity and seed production; ability to disperse and adapt to management practices; tolerance to environmental variation; phenotypic plasticity; asynchronous germination; formation of physiological races and yet, no requirement to germinate.
Uma maneira convencional de se controlar plantas daninhas é através da aplicação de herbicidas.[004] The peculiar characteristics presented by the group guarantee its success in ecosystems, even in those that are not welcome. In this sense, some measures are taken to control and even eradicate the group. A conventional way to control weeds is through the application of herbicides.
Além disso, como a aplicação do herbicida é local, existe a possibilidade de recolonização da área por sementes provenientes de áreas próximas onde não houve aplicação.[005] Despite being widely used and in many cases having effective action, the application of herbicides causes environmental damage by allowing soil contamination, high financial cost and also selection of resistant species, with the successive use of the same type, there may be selection of species resistant to it, which may lead to the dominance of the area by the selected species. In addition, as the herbicide application is local, there is the possibility of recolonization of the area by seeds from nearby areas where there was no application.
Other ways to control/combat weeds are: through manual weeding, which refers to the removal of plants using tools such as hoes; and, through mechanical mowing, which uses electric or combustion brush cutters, which allow the rapid restoration of vegetation, generating a high maintenance cost and exposing people to the risk of accidents, due to the use of sharp blades and encounters with venomous animals. Another form of weed management is controlled burning, a technique that, in addition to causing great damage to the environment, both due to the sterility of the soil and its biota and the emission of particulates and smoke, still presents the risk of getting out of control, cause large fires, especially in times of drought.
As an alternative to traditional herbicides, there is the ecological herbicide, which is a technique that consists of eliminating weeds through the application of highly heated steam and under high pressure. This method only controls weeds immediately, as well as the other forms of management described. In addition, another disadvantage of the ecological herbicide is that it can break the dormancy of some seeds present in the seed bank, further favoring rapid recolonization and increased infestation of the area by plants.
Among more recent techniques for weed management, it is possible to highlight the use of geotextile polyester blankets produced with PE/PP, despite its use in inhibiting the development of these plants, the blankets allow the passage of water and part of the solar radiation, which increases the possibility of these weeds to regrow, since the seed bank continues to have access to water, nutrients and light. In addition, due to sun exposure, there is absorption of ultraviolet light by the polymer, providing energy to break the chains close to the exposed surface, which, associated with other factors such as temperature, hydrolytic degradation and oxidation, accelerates the process, making the PP polymer, less resistant.
The conventional and previously described management techniques do not present the expected efficiency, in general, they have a high maintenance cost and require continuous maintenance in the areas where they are applied. While the polyester geotextile blanket produced with PE/PP allows part of the solar radiation to reach the soil, allowing the penetration of water and thus, the sprouting of seeds present, the herbicides, manual and mechanized weeding and controlled burning act directly in the control vegetation, through the removal of existing vegetation. These types of management do not prevent recolonization of the area from the growth of seedlings from the existing seed bank or from seeds from nearby areas, which allows weeds to reestablish themselves very quickly. In this sense, a management method is proposed that uses LLDPE (Linear Low Density Polyethylene) and HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) geomembranes, which have high estimated durability, associated with geotextile blankets and stones.
[010] No atual estado da técnica, estão presentes algumas anterioridades que descrevem composições herbicidas e dispositivos a serem utilizados no manejo de plantas daninhas.[010] In the current state of the art, there are some prior art describing herbicidal compositions and devices to be used in weed management.
Among the prior art found in the current state of the art, there is BR102015009397-7, entitled "Herbicide composition, and method for killing or controlling weed growth", which describes an oily composition composed of enriched soybean oil with ethoxylated phospholipid that is obtained by the ethoxylation of a soybean oil comprising from 5 to 30% by weight of phospholipid and containing glyphosate as an adjuvant. The described method of killing or controlling the growth of weeds, however, includes the application of the herbicidal composition diluted in water. As much as the composition described fulfills its role in controlling weeds, it has several disadvantages in relation to the proposal of the present patent application, some of which are: the selection of species resistant to the herbicide; control only plants already present at the time of application; possibility of species regrowth, as the seeds and propagules present in the seed bank and in nearby areas can settle in the place, in addition to soil contamination and environmental imbalance caused by the herbicide.
The previous BR102015023996-3, entitled "Device for the control of weeds, applicable in the cultivation process of different cultures" describes a type of weed damper, made of different materials such as cardboard that may contain in its composition chemical components responsible for controlling potential pests. Like the previously mentioned application, the device performs management through chemical components that kill the plants present in the area in which it is used. Therefore, its use still allows the regrowth of species whose seeds and propagules are in the seed bank or in nearby areas; and, as it uses chemical components, there may be an environmental impact caused by soil contamination and by the imbalance of species present in the ecosystem in which it was used, which is minimized by using the management method proposed in this application.
Therefore, none of the prior art present in the current state of the art anticipates the proposal of the present patent application, which, thus, fully meets the demands of the market and solves current technical problems identified in the management of weeds.
The present invention aims to provide a weed management method of simple application and high efficiency, which enables total control of the establishment and growth of weeds in places where there is a need for total absence of vegetation.
This patent application describes a method of weed management that occurs through the joint application of LLDPE and HDPE geomembrane, geotextile blanket and stones. The weed management method (Fig. 2) begins with cleaning (E1 and Fig. 3) of the area to be managed (A), which should be directed to a drainage point, such as a gutter and /or draining trench. Thus, during cleaning (E1) stumps, trunks, shoots, root system, stones and whatever else may be in the area are removed. The steps described below should be used in areas with slopes of up to 15° (I), later specifications will be described for areas with greater slopes (II).
After cleaning (E1), the geomembrane (1) LLDPE or HDPE is applied (E2), in direct contact with the soil, and must cover the entire area (A) to be managed, with an overlap between ends of 10 cm (Fig.4), with no need for welding. By dispensing with solder, care must be taken so that the overlapping ends of the geomembrane (1) are not displaced during the subsequent steps.
Then, the geotextile blanket (2) is applied (E3) completely covering the geomembrane (1) and respecting the 10cm overlap of the ends. As this step also does not require welding, care must be taken to ensure that the overlaps are exactly in place, on top of the geomembrane. The geomembrane (1) and the geotextile blanket (2) should be positioned up to the end of the edge of the channel along its entire length, forming a border close to the end of the channel or the draining trenches (Fig. 5), aiming at a better finish and expanding the drainage capacity, this still prevents the establishment and growth of propagules and contamination of the method (Fig. 6). In the absence of a gutter, to ensure drainage, a drainage trench can be made on site with HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) Drain pipes, with a circular, corrugated section, intended to collect and drain the excess of infiltrated liquid. This tube must be below ground and geotextile level, in a geomembrane-lined trench, filled with stone with granulometry 02 (3) allowing the flow to be directed to a common point or, if necessary, a sinkhole system. In the case of the sink, the draining tube must be surrounded by geotextile on its external part and filled with stone of granulometry 02 (3), in this case, the use or not of the geomembrane (1), may be appropriate according to the place to be management method applied.
After the application (E3) of the geotextile blanket (2), stones with granulometry 02 (3) are spread (E4) on the geotextile blanket (2) in a layer approximately 5 cm thick (Fig. 8), to prevent the passage of light, taking care to maintain the overlapping of the blanket. If a lack of overlap between the layers is observed, the stones must be removed and the process must be redone. After spreading (E4) the first layer of stones, stones with granulometry 03 (4) are spread over it (E5), also in a layer of approximately 5 cm thick (Fig. 9), avoiding the transit of people and vehicles. The coverage with stones of granulometry 02 (3) and 03 (4) should have an estimated height of 10 cm, and there may be variations in this measure according to the characteristics of slope and absence of traffic of people in the area to be managed. This coverage (E4 and E5) must be carried out manually, using a wheelbarrow, hoe, shovel and fork, mechanization of these steps is not recommended, as the geomembrane (1) has low tensile strength and can be broken if exposed to weight and stress beyond specified.
For finishing (E6) of the managed area and to avoid loss of stones near the gutters, you can choose between two options, the first of which is the application of a ballast glue (5) through blasting (E7 and Fig.10) on the stones, or bonding (E7) of bundles of stone with a hexagonal mesh grid (6 - Fig. 11) of double twist with a 3X8 opening, preferably produced with low-carbon wires coated with a coating made of zinc/aluminium alloy and the addition of rare earths, protected by a continuous layer of plastic material, which aims to increase its durability. This beam may have a diameter of 10 to 40 cm according to the need of the place where it will be applied and length may vary between 1.0 to 2.0 m with filling of stone granulometry 3 (4), in order to facilitate filling in the field.
Após a aplicação do acabamento escolhido (E7 ou E8) a área estará pronta (AP).[023] Other similar products with the same durability may still be used for the same purpose. After applying the chosen finish (E7 or E8) the area will be ready (AP).
Após a conclusão da atividade de controle da vegetação, os restos vegetais poderão ser recolhidos manualmente ou sugado com um aspirador industrial adaptado para esta finalidade.[024] Regarding the maintenance of the ready area (AP), the management method was developed to last about 100 years, without requiring any type of maintenance, provided that there is no contamination of the stone with soil or any type of substrate and nor perforation of the geomembrane. In case of contamination of the stone layer, it must be replaced by one without contamination, which can be the same after washing or the substrate must be sucked with an industrial vacuum adapted for this purpose and replaced. If there is emission of superficial branches of bushy or reptile plant species (Fig. 12 and 13) the cleaning must be done by manual picking, not being recommended the use of hoes, picks or other cutting tools for this activity, in order to guarantee the integrity physics of the geomembrane (1) and the geotextile blanket (2). When pruning or mowing close to the managed area, the fall of leaves and branches on the system should be avoided, being suggested the use of a shade 80% of 7m long by 3m wide, functioning as a screen between the worked area and the area of process application. After completing the vegetation control activity, the plant remains can be collected manually or sucked with an industrial vacuum cleaner adapted for this purpose.
In areas with a slope of up to 40°, in addition to the materials previously described, reno mattress (7 - Fig 14), 10 cm thick hand or marroada stone (8 - Fig 15) is also used; Stone of granulometry 03 (4) in 7 cm thickness. The brown stone or hand stone (8) is obtained by crushing process or through browning (hammered) and has granulometry variable from 0.064 m to 0.170 m, containing between 10 and 40 cm in length and average weight of 10 kg per piece ( Figure 15). The reno mattress (7 and Fig. 14) is a rectangular structure, manufactured with hexagonal double twist mesh (6X8 opening), with low carbon content wires coated with zinc/aluminum alloy coating, addition of rare earths and protected by a continuous layer of plastic material (applied by extrusion), mechanically rolled edges, edges reinforced by overlapping meshes and a double wall diagram, with dimensions of 17 cm in height, 2.0 m in width and 3.0 m in length. The reno mattress (Fig. 14) is actually a flat, long gabion, subdivided into cells by double-walled diaphragms spaced at regular intervals. Its base, side walls and closing (ends) are formed from a single continuous mesh cloth, obtaining an open multicellular container. The ends of the mesh cloths are reinforced with wire of a larger diameter than that used to manufacture the mesh. Any type of flat gabion that meets the aforementioned specifications can be used. The dimensions to be used in the control process may vary according to the needs of the project. The filling can be done according to the manufacturer's guidelines and may have variations in the sizes of the suggested stone layers, but this cover must guarantee total protection from light on the blankets.
For areas with a steeper slope, cleaning (E1) must be carried out as specified, paying attention to the need to regularize the slope. The risk of activities at height must be assessed, if positive, documentation, training and the necessary equipment must be provided. After cleaning (E1) the area and conforming the slope, first apply (E2) the geomembrane (1) then apply (E3) the geotextile blanket (2), it is important to prioritize the use of parts larger sheets (2), avoiding patches, in order to increase the stability of applying the method under the slope. If patches cannot be avoided, weld the geomembranes (1) and sew the geotextile blanket (3). On the geotextile blanket (2) position (EC) the reno mattress (7) and lock it at the base of the slope with a small channel of soil from the site itself. The application of the reno mattress (7) must be done from the bottom to the top, avoiding spaces above and on the sides between the mattresses. After locking (EC1), the brown stone or hand stone (8) must be placed (EC2), filling the mattress structure around 60% of the total, after placing this amount, then it must be placed (EC3) the stone with granulometry 03 (4), which will occupy the other 40% of the structure to be filled. Concluding the packaging (EC3), the closure (EC4) and locking (EC5) of the cover of the reno mattress (7) with wire (9) of the same material, to be purchased from the same manufacturer, is carried out, with the area ready (AP ). For twisting and cutting this wire, cutting pliers must be used, only after this process is finished will the filling of the mattress that will come above begin, in order to avoid the risk of accidents and rolling of material.
[027] A manutenção da área segue a mesma descrita para as áreas com declividade de até 15°.[027] The maintenance of the area follows the same described for areas with a slope of up to 15°.
The management method can be applied in any area that needs to have weeds absent, where there is no traffic of cars, machines, equipment and heavy objects, for example in railways, it can be applied to the side of the rail ballast, headwaters bridge, level crossing; on highways, it can be applied on shoulders, headboards of bridges around signaling signs, medians, intersections, periphery of the drainage system; on or under pipelines such as gas and oil pipelines.
17, 18 and 19) demonstrated 100% efficiency in controlling the establishment and growth of weeds (Fig. 20), as well as the regrowth of woody plants that had already been installed in the application area in the past. None of the traditionally used management methods: herbicide application, manual weeding, mechanized mowing and controlled burning; nor the most modern ones: PE/PP blanket and ecological herbicide, showed such high efficiency in controlling the installation and growth of weeds. In addition, direct and indirect impacts much greater than those caused by the proposed method are caused to the biota, the ecosystem, the areas and surroundings where they are applied and people, due to the risks to which they are exposed during the execution of traditional managements. The application of the geomembrane and the geotextile blanket, aiming at total control over the establishment of weeds and regrowth of woody species, is based on breaking the ecological principles of plant production by controlling light, availability of water and nutrients, controlling the emission of propagules , being an efficient and definitive solution for weed control. From the above, the need for the proposed management method is observed, which presents several advantages in relation to the options present in the current state of the art; therefore, the present proposal deserves the privilege of patent of invention.
