Abstract

One method of forming fibers in a blanket includes the steps of coextruding a first elastomeric component and a second thermoplastic component; directing the first and second components through a fiber spinning assembly to form a plurality of continuous fused fiber spinning lines, wherein the first elastomeric component is present in an amount greater than about 70 weight percent of the melt fibers and the second thermoplastic component is present in an amount of from about 10 to 30 weight percent of the melt fibers; attenuation of spinning lines and direction of the plurality of fused fibers through a blunt cooling chamber for the formation of a plurality of cooled fibers; directing the plurality of cooled fibers through a fiber stretching unit, where the fibers are pulled down; allowing the pulled fibers to be deposited on a forming surface thereby forming a blanket where the fibers are relaxed; blanket stabilization; and bonding the blanket to produce a blanket that demonstrates more than about 25 percent machine direction strain recovery.
