Abstract

OF MODULATING PRODUCTION OF A COMPOUND CONTAINING SULFUR BY A MICROORGANISM AND METHYMINE PRODUCTION, TRANSGENIC EXPRESSION CASSETTE, AND, TRANSGENIC HOST CELL". Nucleic acid molecules, called MR nucleic acid molecules, which encode new Corynebacterium glutamicum MR proteins are described which are involved in the biosynthesis of a fine chemical compound, for example in methionine biosynthesis. The invention also provides antisense nucleic acid molecules, vectors and transgenic expression cassettes containing MR nucleic acid molecules and host cells into which expression vectors or cassettes have been introduced. The invention further provides methods of producing methionine from microorganisms, for example C. glutamicum, which involves culturing recombinant microorganisms that overexpress or underexpress at least one MR molecule of the invention under conditions such that methionine is produced. Also disclosed are methods of producing a fine chemical compound, for example methionine, which involves culturing recombinant microorganisms having deleted or mutated selected MR genes under conditions such that the fine chemical compound, for example methionine, is produced.
