"PROCESSO DE CARBONIZAçãO DA MADEIRA PARA A FABRICAçãO DO CARVãO VEGETAL". O processo de carbonização da madeira consiste em submetê-la a um tratamento térmico, em temperaturas mais elevadas que a ambiente, em uma atmosfera controlada, que deve ser isenta de oxigênio livre. Durante o processo de carbonização, há uma decomposição da madeira pelo efeito da temperatura resultando em um produto sólido - carvão vegetal - e desprendimento de matéria volátil parte da qual pode ser condensada. No Brasil, o carvão vegetal é obtido em fornos primitivos, ou em fornos retangulares de grandes dimensões, nos quais parte da madeira é queimada para o fornecimento do calor necessário ao processo. Além disto, gases condensáveis altamente poluentes são lançados para a atmosfera. A presente invenção se refere a um processo no qual fornos retangulares de grandes dimensões são adaptados ao Processo DPC. Neste processo os produtos voláteis desprendidos durante a pirólise são queimados em uma câmara independente para a geração do calor necessário ao processo. Resulta que a queima de parte da madeira é evitada e que produtos condensáveis poluentes não são lançados para a atmosfera. O sistema proposto pela presente invenção tem, portanto o objetivo de permitir a adaptação do Processo DPC aos fornos alvenaria de carbonização independente do formato ou das dimensões. A adaptação permite um controle preciso do processo, obtendo-se assim o teor de carbono fixo que se desejar, e um maior rendimento da carbonização, que por sua vez significa um aumento da reserva florestal cultivada. No sistema proposto pela presente invenção, gases combustos efluentes de uma câmara de combustão localizada externamente, percorrem o forno de secagem em percurso descendente, aquecendo a madeira e as paredes do forno de secagem. Na câmara de combustão há um trocador metálico de calor, que transfere calor dos gases combustos para parte dos gases produzidos na pirólise, gases estes que irão aquecer a madeira anidra no forno de pirólise e fornecer o calor necessário às reações de carbonização. O conceito fundamental do processo que idealizamos, é o aquecimento da madeira da qual se deseja extrair voláteis pelos próprios voláteis que se deseja extrair, adaptando-se assim este conceito aos fornos retangulares de grandes dimensões que estão em funcionamento. Resultam desta adaptação entre outros benefícios o não lançamento para a atmosfera de gases poluentes e nocivos para a saúde humana, um aumento na produtividade dos ditos fornos retangulares, e um aumento no rendimento gravimétrico. The carbonization process of wood consists of subjecting it to heat treatment at higher temperatures than the environment, in a controlled atmosphere, which must be free of free oxygen. During the carbonization process, the wood decomposes by the effect of temperature resulting in a solid product - charcoal - and detachment of volatile matter from which it can be condensed. In Brazil, charcoal is obtained in primitive furnaces, or in large rectangular ovens, in which part of the wood is burned to provide the heat necessary for the process. In addition, highly polluting condensable gases are released into the atmosphere. The present invention relates to a process in which large rectangular ovens are adapted to the DPC Process. In this process volatile products released during pyrolysis are burned in an independent chamber to generate the heat required for the process. As a result, burning of part of the wood is avoided and pollutant condensable products are not released into the atmosphere. The system proposed by the present invention is therefore intended to allow the DPC Process to be adapted to carbonization masonry furnaces irrespective of shape or size. The adaptation allows precise control of the process, thus obtaining the desired fixed carbon content, and a higher carbonization yield, which in turn means an increase in the cultivated forest reserve. In the system proposed by the present invention, effluent combustion gases from an externally located combustion chamber run down the drying furnace, heating the wood and the drying furnace walls. In the combustion chamber there is a metal heat exchanger, which transfers heat from the combustion gases to part of the gases produced in the pyrolysis, which will heat the anhydrous wood in the pyrolysis oven and provide the heat needed for the carbonization reactions. The fundamental concept of the process we have devised is the heating of the wood from which it is desired to extract volatiles by the very volatiles that one wishes to extract, thus adapting this concept to the large rectangular ovens that are in operation. This adaptation results, among other benefits, in the non-release into the atmosphere of pollutant gases harmful to human health, an increase in the productivity of said rectangular ovens, and an increase in the gravimetric yield. Alternatively, pyrolysis gases can be burned in a metal duct placed in the middle of the furnace, which transfers heat to the wood around it through intense and efficient circulation of gases in the furnace atmosphere between the wood logs.
