O dinitrotolueno é hidrogenado cataliticamente, sendo que, como catalisador, utiliza-se um catalisador multi-metálico. O catalisador contém irídio, bem como pelo menos um elemento de dopagem a partir do grupo vanádio, níquel, manganês, ferro, cobalto, cobre e/ou platina.
