Abstract
The method is used in foundry engineering. The castings produced by the method display high geometrical and dimensional accuracy and improved physico-mechanical properties since the gas inclusions in the castings are reduced to the maximum. According to the method the burnt-pattern due to be cast is placed in a vacuum treated casting crate. The space between the burnt pattern and the interior of the crate are filled simultaneously with dry fine-grained refractory material and subjected to vibration. The free surface of the dry fine-grained refractory material is covered with a plastic foil and the so-formed casting crate is subjected to vacuum treatment and then the liquid metal is poured. Under the effect of the molten metal the pattern burns and the empty space is filled by the liquid metal. Prior to pouring of the molten metal the dry fine-grained refractory material is removed from the inner part of the burnt shell pattern. After crystallization of the casting vacuum is switched off and the casting is drawn.
