This method may be used in purification equipment, in steam and water-heating cauldrons, in the chemical industry and non-ferrous metallurgy. It reduces the heat expenditure for regeneration of the used adsorbent without applying a hard, interim heat-carrier. The method entails a process of absorbing the sulphuric dioxide with carbon containing sorbent carried out in a converse flow within a boiling layer of the regenerated adsorbent. The flow of the saturated adsorbent is divided into two parts, which are heated and cooled individually with gas flows containing inert gases and outgoing and processed gas mixtures from the material gas glows of the purified gases, until the necessary temperatures and phase compositions are reached, after which regeneration of the adsorbent within a boiling layer is carried out. The gas extracted after the regeneration, rich in sulphuric dioxide, is led for processing to sulphuric acid after mixing with air.
