Abstract

The invention relates to a new process for the preparation of 3-[2-(3,4-dimethoxy-benzoyl)-4,5-dimethoxy-phenyl]-pentane-2-on-ketals with general formula which comprises reacting a compound of general formula wherein every R1 and R2 independently each stands for C1-4 alkyl or together form C2-C6-alkylene group, with 3-4-dimethoxybenzaldehyde. The compounds with general formula II are pharmaceutical intermediates useful for the synthesis of the anxiolytic agent tofisopam.
