The bentonite compositions are used for the preparation of borehole solutions and in the hydraulic engineering. By the method the destruction of the polymer in treating the bentonite at elevated temperatures is avoided and the polymer consumption caused by losses during the pneumatic transport is reduced. By it new compositions are produced with the participation of more than one polymer of different designation in the hydraulic engineering and drilling. The initial raw bentonite with humidity ranging from 28 to 34% is crushed into lumps sized under 30 mm. The crushed bentonite is subjected to alkaline activation with 2 to 4% Na2CO3 solution in a homogenizer, after which it is dried at temperatures from 700 to 950 degrees C until humidity of from 8 to 15% is reached and is ground. The activated bentonite is mixed in dry with 1 to 3% polyacrylate polymer and is packed. The polyacrylate polymer can be polyacrtlenitrile, polyacylamide or a mixture thereof. `
