Abstract

The invention relates to the treatment of waste waters and other polluted materials. A compound having the general formula (ZO)n Aln(OH)n-m(Cl)m (or a close empiric formula), where Z is aluminosilicate material, is produced by the activation of the material by acid treatment or by subjecting it to exchange of ammonium ions and subsequent heating of the so produced material in the presence of an aluminium compound. The prefered aluminosilicate is a mineral of clinoptilolite structure containing zeolite, and the preferable aluminium compound is polyaluminium chloride. The turned out product has neutral pH, is not toxic and is suitable for use in flotation and sedimentation tanks. It destabilizes suspensions, dispersions and emulsions, can be employed in a wide pH interval, it is amphoteric and is particularly suitable for the elimination of cations of heavy metals and phosphate anions. In addition, this reduces the chemical and biological oxygen deficiency, the absorbable halogenated hydrocarbons and the quantity of slime, and simultaneously increasing the dry product content, does not expand, is economical for use and does not pollute the environment.
