Suivant l'invention, cet appareil comprend

To this end, according to the invention, said method consists in directing, on the exposed face of said mirror
or: objective, a jet of gas, such as air under pressure such that it opposes the formation of fogging on this face and causes liquid and solid projections
which are deposited there, to channel the above-mentioned gas jet on this face so that it sweeps it over at least a large part of its surface, to collect, after scanning of said face, the gas as well as the liquids and solids
that it transports and to evacuate them so that they do not modify, in particular, the pressure conditions in the vicinity of said mirror or objective.
According to an advantageous embodiment
of the invention, the pressurized gas jet is laminated,
on a part of the periphery of the surface of the aforementioned exposed face, so that it forms a film. moving in laminar mode on said surface and which is recovered

Figure 1 is an elevational view, partially broken and in section, along line I-I of Figure 2, of an apparatus according to the invention, equipped with a mirror and more particularly intended for dental care. Figure 2 is a plan view, partially broken, corresponding to Figure 1.
Figures 3 and 4 are sectional views along lines III-III and IV -IV of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a section along the line
V V of figure 1.
In the different figures, the same reference notations designate identical or analogous elements.
The method according to the invention and illustrated in the drawings consists, in order to keep the reflecting face 1 of the mirror 2 free from fogging and projections when the mirror 2 is introduced into a humid environment, to direct, in 3 on this reflecting face 1 exposed to said medium , a jet of gas, such as air, under sufficient pressure so that this gas, on the one hand, is opposed to the formation of fogging on this face 1 and, on the other hand, can cause projections liquids and solids reaching the reflecting face 1 of the mirror. The gas jet is then channeled along the edges4 of the mirror and in a direction parallel to these edges, and in the direction shown schematically by the arrow 5, so that it scans the surface of said face 1 and is directed to be harvested , in 6 after total scanning of this surface, as well as the liquids
and solids which it transports to be evacuated in 7 so that this gas under pressure does not modify the conditions
pressure of the place where the mirror is introduced and, in the particular case illustrated, so that this gas is not a discomfort for the patient in whose mouth the mirror is placed. The pressurized gas jet is laminated,
in 3, all along the edge 8 of the mirror, which is rectangular, so that it forms a film moving in laminar regime on the face 1, this film being recovered, with the projections which it carries, in 6, all along the edge
9 of the mirror opposite the edge 8 along which the gas is laminated.
To facilitate the complete harvesting and evacuation of the gas and of the projections transported by the latter, respectively at 6 and 7, a vacuum is created in these two places.
The apparatus according to the invention, for setting
in implementing the above method comprises, as illustrated in the drawings, a housing 10 in which the plane and rectangular mirror 2 is mounted so that only its reflecting face 1 is exposed to the humid atmosphere and to projections. This box 10 includes means 11 for distributing the jet of pressurized gas and laminating it along
on the side 8 of the face 1, means 12 arranged to channel the air film on said face 1 in a direction parallel to the edges 4 of the face 1 and direct it towards the edge 9 of the latter (arrow 5), while preventing it from escaping from the housing 10. The latter also includes
means 13 arranged to collect the gas and the projections which it transports and located all along the side 9
of the face 1, as well as means 14 arranged to evacuate these gases and projections outside the housing and away from the place where the mirror 2 is used.
The aforementioned box 10 is mounted and fixed on a handle 15 which allows its manipulation for orientation
mirror 2 and holding it in place when said handle is held in hand. The mirror 2 is fixed in the housing 10 to create, between the face 16 of the mirror opposite the face 1, a space 17, closed along the edges 4 and 9 of the mirror, into which the pipe 18 opens bringing the gas under pressure , the aforesaid means 11 distributing the gas being constituted by this space 17, by an opening 18 produced in the housing along the edge 8 of the mirror and parallel to this edge and by a wall 19 of the profiled housing so as to allow to remain, between the face 1 of the mirror and the edge 20 of said wall 19, a narrow slot 21, parallel to the edge
8 of the mirror and extending over the entire length of this edge, constituting a ramp laminating the gas and directing the film of gas formed towards the opposite edge 9 of the mirror, in laminar regime, so that it prevents the formation of fogging on face 1 and opposes the depositing of projections on the latter. The aforesaid means 12 for channeling the gas film on the face 1
and to prevent gas from escaping along the edges 4 of the mirror are constituted by two parallel walls 22 extending all along the edges 4 of the mirror and above the face 1 thereof from the slot 21 to '' to the means 13 arranged to collect the gas and the projections transported by the latter, the height of the walls 22 being greater than the height of the slot 21. Said means 13 collecting the gas consist of an orifice 23 formed in the housing at the along the edge 9 of the mirror and parallel to this edge opening into an enclosure 24 constituting the end of the means
14 evacuating the gas and the projections it carries.
The pipe 18 'bringing the gas into the abovementioned space 17 of the box and the pipe 25 constituting said means 14 are arranged in the handle 15 fixed to the box 10 and a depression is advantageously created in the enclosure 24 of the box to facilitate, d on the one hand, the collection of the gas and of the projections transported through the orifice 23, as well as the projections moving in the vicinity of said orifice and, on the other hand, their transport through the pipeline 25. The height of the above-mentioned walls 22 is, in the vicinity of the orifice 23, at least equal to the corresponding dimension of this orifice 23.
The aforementioned space 17 of the housing is furnished with means arranged to distribute the gas under pressure regularly over the entire length of the slot 21 and constituted by a filter 26 extending through the space 17, parallel to the sides 8 and 9 of the mirror, to distribute
the gas opening into this space at 27, over the entire section of said space downstream of the filter. Guide members 28 further extending in said space 17, parallel to the edges 4 of the mirror, from the filter 26 to the aforementioned opening 18 made in the housing to avoid turbulence of the gas under pressure and facilitate its rolling through slot 21.
To allow adjustment of the height of the orifice 23 and from there the adjustment of the section of this orifice as a function of the pressure of the gas circulating on
the face 1 of the mirror and the vacuum prevailing in the aforementioned enclosure 24, the housing 10 advantageously comprises a movable part 29 whose edge 30 constitutes the
upper side of the orifice 23 which is parallel to the
side 1 of the mirror. This movable part 29 is guided so that it can be moved, along the double arrow 31,
so that the edge 30 of the orifice remains constantly parallel to the edges 8 and 9 of the mirror, screws 32 being provided to immobilize this part 29 in the chosen position. The handle 15 of the device comprises connection means, not shown, of the pipes 18 'and
25 of the apparatus to a device for dental care which is equipped with a compressor to put the gas under pressure and a pump to create the aforementioned depression in the enclosure 24 of the housing and entrain the collected gas and the projections which it transports through line 25.
It should be understood that the invention is in no way limited to the embodiment described and that many modifications can be made to the latter without departing from the scope of this patent.
Thus the above-mentioned device could be equipped with a non-planar mirror, the distribution, guidance and collection of the gas then being adapted to the reflecting surface of said mirror.
One could also provide a box, the upper part of which supports the mirror and the means for distributing, guiding and collecting the gas, would be removable and interchangeable, so that the same box could be used with different types of mirror.
The above-mentioned housing could also support, instead of a mirror, an optical system, of the endoscope type with lenses or optical fibers, having an eyepiece on the handle fixed to the housing, this eyepiece being able to allow in addition to a direct view, the connection of any image processing device, such as a camera, video device, etc.
