<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
EMI5.1

Eendergelijkvoortduwmechanismewordt bijvoorbeeld gerealiseerd door horizontaal bewegende rooster- stav. e ? i of treden.
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>

<Desc/Clms Page number 10>

"Staircase grate, with cooled staircase grate and modular heat-reflecting vault, for burning all fuels".
The invention relates to a grate firebox, in particular to the furnace arrangement of such a grate firebox, for burning solid fuels while retaining oil or gas combustion.
Stair grates were designed for fuels with a relatively low calorific value and with a relatively high water and ash content. With such a grid it is possible to burn brown coal, wood sawdust, coal sludge, palm kernels, etc. The fuels referred to are usually of inferior quality and therefore require a larger grate surface. This surface is obtained by designing the grating at an angle, whereby the grating bars in the form of horizontal plates as the steps of a staircase lie one above the other. The fire supplied at the top

dust automatically sinks .. the steps a nature. The possibly still moist c2 fuel is dried on the upper part of the c2 grate and degassed.
At the bottom, the staircase grate ends in a flat post-combustion grate with provisions for C> the discharge of the ashes.
The grating bars are always spread over a large

in contact with the glowing fuel and thus suffer a great deal, not only from heat but also from the movement of the fuel downwards. The lifespan of such a stair grille is therefore limited.
On the other hand, the known solid fuel combustion systems are characterized by a strict fuel definition due to limited control options. Existing combustion systems are, for example, limited to inferior fuels. However, combustion systems that work with different forms of solid fuel are not available.
The object of the invention is, on the one hand, to provide a solution to the abovementioned wear problem and, on the other hand, to provide a combustion system which can be fired with both high and low calorific solid fuels. The latter means that with a single boiler, provided a correct setting of all control options, a wide range of fuel can be fired: including fossil fuels such as coal, etc ... and in particular the introduction of a burner: fuel oil or gas ; agricultural fuels such as wood, palm kernels, etc ...; and waste-derived fuels.
The grate firebox, according to the invention, for burning solid fuels is characterized by a hollow stair grate flowed through with a cooling fluid.
Furthermore, the grille firebox according to the invention is characterized by a heat-reflecting vault that completely or partially encloses the upper boundary of a

The furnace grate according to the invention is further characterized by an input of 0 CD controllable primary and / or secondary air and a dynanic propulsion mechanism that can be set across zones.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The various features mentioned of the grate firebox according to the invention allow control of the flue gas return, of the air supply and the propulsion mechanism, whereby the factors influencing the combustion in the grate firebox according to the invention can be adapted to the characteristics of the solid fuel.
As an example, without any limiting character, hereinafter follows, in order to indicate further possibilities and advantages, a detailed description of two possible embodiments. of the grate firebox according to the invention incorporated in a water heating device. This description refers to attached drawings, in which:

EMI4.1
The first embodiment is where the staircase grate is within an overarching bundle of pipes, called a chapel, which is connected to the higher-positioned boiler body, with or without steam space, and which, together with that boiler, form the hydraulic circuit. t.
The staircase grate according to the invention is characterized on the one hand by a cooled staircase grate, figures 1 and 2. The staircase grate (1), with a flat afterburning grate (2) at the bottom, consists of two collectors (3), which are the trees. of the stairs, between which hollow grate profiles (4), which form the steps of the staircase and which form the bottom post-combustion grate (2), are suspended. Such a collector (3) consists of a long tube that is connected to the hydraulic circuit of the boiler via both ends. The grid is therefore completely hollow so that it can be flowed through with water.
The hydraulic circuit consists of a chapel (5) connected to a boiler body (6) with fire tubes. The chapel (5) consists of two side collectors (7) and an upper collector (8).
Each side collector (7) is connected to the top collector (8) via a series of risers (9). Top and side collectors (8 & 7 respectively) are connected to the boiler body (6). The heat released into the furnace heats the water in the risers (9). The hot flue gases heat the water in the boiler body (6) as they pass through the fire tubes. The collectors

Z> The cooled stair grille of the grille firebox 0 according to the. the invention has a double advantage. On the one hand, the service life of a cooled stair grille is much longer than that of a classic stair grille as it cools down

fluid keeps the material of the staircase grate at a more or less constant temperature and thus limits overly high temperatures and overly extreme temperature variations.
On the other hand, combustion is more even and controlled due to the cooling in the staircase grille. In addition, the circulation water in the staircase grille ensures, although limited, additional heating of the fuels introduced at the top.
On the other hand, the grate firebox according to the invention is characterized by a heat-reflecting vault which, to an adjustable height of the stair grate, forms the fully or partially closed top boundary of a tunnel located above the grate and between the side walls of the firebox. Such a heat-reflecting vault is constructed, for example, with several adjacent two-part concrete vaults (10) that rest in the center of the seat of the fire on a water-cooled support pipe (11). and sideways on the refractory lining (12) of the furnace (fig. 1 and 3, dashed)

The carrier pipe (11) is directly connected to the boiler body (6) on the front of the hood

C> the support pipe (11) included in the hydraulic circuit The concrete vaults (10), figure 4, are made of a refractory, heat-reflecting material and are shaped to fit on the support pipe (11) and on the refractory lining (12) of the seat of the fire. If both parts (13) of a concrete vault (10) are against each other. they form a cavity (14) at the bottom that fits on the carrier pipe (11).
With this concrete vault, the firebox, which can be adjusted upwards from the lowest point of the support pipe, can be covered so that a screen is created between the firebox
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
and the exhaust (15) of the flue gases. The hot flue gases are passed through this screen over an adjustable part of the stair grille (1) (thick arrow) and then iron over the fuel that sinks down on the grate so that it is dried.
The extent to which the flue gases are returned before they pass through the fire tubes in the boiler body (6) is adjustable by controlling the length of this heat-reflecting vault. This length can be adjusted by removing or adding two-part concrete vaults (10). This return is not necessary for dry fuel: the heat-reflecting vault must be wholly or partly removed by removing concrete vaults (10). For very moist fuel, this return is necessary or this heat-reflecting vault is built up high along the stair grating (1) with concrete vaults (10).
In addition to this control option, the heat-reflecting vault offers the advantage that the combustion gases remain in the combustion chamber for longer, so that the flue gases burn out completely and the combustion heat of the fuel is used to the maximum.
Furthermore, the grate firebox according to the invention is characterized by a zone-adjustable supply of primary and / or secondary air, figures 1 and 3. The primary air is the air that flows under the grate and feeds combustion through the grate. Secondary air is the air that flows above the grate to feed the combustion of still flammable components in the flue gases. The space under the staircase grille (1) is passed through

flows the air distribution funnels can be blown with a fan or can be sucked in by the CD suction of the flue gases.
The control valves (17) can

can either be set manually or can be set automatically via a servo motor. In the latter case, recording units are arranged which record the values of certain parameters at different places in the furnace and which forward data to the control which in turn adjusts the control valves (17).
On. this way, the supply of pre-heated or not pre-heated primary air can be over the different zone. s are optimally adjusted for maximum combustion.

The zone distribution of the secondary air is realized by several air pipes (19) opening above the staircase grille (1). The openings (33) in the refractory

The air supply of secondary air can again be done freely, either caused by blowing or suctioning. The different valves (20) can be adjusted manually or automatically.
Stair grates sometimes have to be provided with a pushing mechanism, because large grating areas are an obstacle to the sagging movement of the fuel.
The pushing mechanism then ensures an even lowering of the fuel. Such a push-through mechanism is realized, for example, by horizontally moving grating rods. e ? i or steps. Another embodiment is where pr pushes a push plate across each step in a horizontal reciprocating motion in the width sense of each step. The fuel lying on the steps is thus pushed through the push plates over the front edge of each step.

A further characteristic t can be arranged over different zones. Such an arrangement is, for example, FIG. 1.

Each push plate (21) is mounted on a frame (22). Three such frames (22) are arranged movably under the stair grating. Each frame (22) can move back and forth (small arrows) over a distance equal to the width * of a grid profile (4) and is driven by its own pneumatic cylinders (23). Long rods (24) are rotatably connected to the piston rod of each pneumatic cylinder (23) and to each frame (22). The rods (24) pass through airtight pipes (29) so that the air distribution funnels (16) are not interconnected. The frequency and stroke length of each pneumatic cylinder (23) can be adjusted so that the movement of the push plates (21) belonging to each different zone is adjustable.
Due to the hinged connection between the piston rod of each pneumatic cylinder (23) and the frames (22), the push plates (21) can also perform a reciprocating movement over the grating profiles (4), '. leading edge of the push plates (21) is at an adjustable and possibly varying angle until the stock of the grille profile (4).
In this way, a dynamic pushing mechanism is obtained.
A second embodiment is that in which the grate firebox according to the invention is arranged in the boiler body. Such an arrangement essentially consists of a large cylindrical boiler within which a second cylinder, the combustion chamber, is arranged in which the combustion takes place.
The heat produced in the firebox directly heats

the water in the boiler hull. The CD flue gases discharged from the furnace are passed through fire tubes passing through the boiler body and give off their residual heat to the water.
The water-cooled stair grille (1), of the grille firebox according to the invention, is used in this embodiment.

Figures 5 and 6, realized by two flue gas heaters (25 & 26, respectively), so that those collectors (3) are flowed through with water. The collectors (3) form, as it were, a kind of running pipe.
Both collectors (3) are in turn interconnected with hollow grid profiles (4), which are thus also flowed through with water from the boiler hull (26) and which form the steps of the staircase grille (1). -
The heat reflective weaving is built up with the same concrete vaults (10). These concrete vaults (10) rest on the top of the refractory lining (12) of the side walls of the firebox (25) and on a support pipe (11) which, like the collectors (3), through its outer ends - the wall of the seat of the fire (25) is in communication with the water-filled space between the seat of the fire and the boiler body (resp.
25 & 26), so that the carrier pipe (11) is flooded with water.
The flue gases must flow back around the vault to pass through the flue gas opening (27) into the fire tubes (28).
By installing or removing concrete vaults (10), the path of the flue gases is determined.
The pushing mechanism adjustable per zone is realized in the same manner as in the first embodiment. The push plates (21) are mounted on different frames (22). Each frame (22) is driven by two or more pneumatic cylinders (23) via rods (24) with the same setting options for frequency and stroke length.
The zone distribution of primary and secondary air supply is realized in a more rudimentary manner in this second embodiment. The space under the staircase grille (I) is subdivided with partitions (30) in three zones (31). Each zone (31) is connected to the outside environment via an air control door (32). The air supply can enter with these air control doors (32). each zone (31). The Rods (24) return by completely separating airtight pipes (29) or the zones (31).
The secondary air is supplied through air pipes (37) that pass through the

outer wall of the boiler body (2'6) and the outer wall of the hearth (25) and leading to openings (-33) in the refractory lining (12) of the side walls of the fireproof

fireplace (25) ,. The opening of these trachea (32) to the loot. With screw caps (34) (fig. in te) It goes without saying that the invention is not limited by the shape of the chosen stair grille and the cooling fluid used, for example. so that an independent cooling circuit must be provided to cool the staircase grille.
On the other hand, the possibility of oil and gas firing with the grate firebox according to the invention is retained provided that a burner is inserted into the back of the firebox, where the stair grate ends on the drain before the ashes. Here too, the heat-reflecting vault has a favorable effect on combustion because the flue gases remain in the combustion space for longer and thus burn out completely, so that the combustion heat of the fuel is used to the maximum.
