"Removable core barrel fixing mechanism"
REMOVABLE CORE FIXING MECHANISM
The present invention relates to a fixing mechanism, used as an essential component in removable corers.
There is a known model of combined fixing mechanism, composed of a barrel which contains two cylinders, located in two planes parallel to each other and perpendicular to the geometric axis of the barrel, whose central rotary attachment is mounted coaxially in the barrel, and provided, at its rod, with a helical spring, a fixing sleeve and a thrust washer clamped between two nuts 1.
This type of fixing mechanism has the disadvantage that it involves a risk of deformation of the core barrel during the withdrawal of the drill bit and that it only holds the core barrel.
The object of the present invention is to provide a removable corer fixing mechanism, which prevents any deformation of the corer, which fixes the corer to the drill bit and which signals any interruption of the drilling process.
The problem is solved by a fixing mechanism provided with a cap, the lower part of which is provided with two opposing longitudinal notches enclosing a cylindrical pin and ensuring the coupling of the fixing mechanism to the upper part of the fastener, which is made up of '' a cylindrical hollow body with multiple sections. The first section of the upper part of the fastener contains two opposing retainers, the width of which is equal to that of the lower section of the cap. The second and third sections of the clip are located in the center of the clip and are separated by an annular groove. The lower part of the fastener, which is threaded, is screwed to a lock nut and a locking key.
The lock nut is mounted in the lower part of the cylindrical hollow body, the upper part of which adapts to the second and to the third section of the fastener. The upper part of the cylindrical hollow body, which is threaded, is screwed to a stop bar; cylinders, held in position by springs, are mounted in two planes, parallel to each other and perpendicular to the geometric axis of the hollow body. The lower part of the cylindrical hollow body, which is threaded, is connected by its thread to a split spring barrel, provided in its upper part with a locking key.
The split spring barrel consists of an upper part, delimited by a constriction provided with a retaining edge, a middle part which consists of the split spring proper, and a lower part connected to a rod. signaling, sealed to a collar and, at its base, to a supporting structure, held by a cap nut.
The supporting structure contains an axial bearing and bearings which support the supporting rod, the upper threaded end of which is connected to nuts blocking the thrust washers, and the lower part of which has a drainage orifice and a thread for fixing the core barrel (not shown in the diagram).
The present invention offers the advantage of ensuring the protection of the core barrel while guaranteeing its normal operation; this advantage is the result of the fact that the assembly increases the flexibility of the "withdrawal cable - mousetrap" system
- core barrel "immediately above the core barrel, thus preventing it from deforming, ensuring its maintenance and signaling any interruption in the drilling process.
An exemplary embodiment of a removable corer attachment mechanism according to the present invention is illustrated by the appended diagram, which represents a longitudinal torque of the attachment mechanism.
The fixing mechanism of the present invention comprises a cover 1, the inner and outer surfaces of which are divided into two sections, the upper outer section being separated from the lower section by the groove
2. In the lower section of the cap 1 are arranged two opposing longitudinal notches, in which is incorporated a cylindrical pin 5, which ensures the connection of the cap to the upper part of the clip 7, which consists of a body cylindrical hollow, the inner surface of which, divided into two sections, includes a larger upper part which gradually narrows to form a channel
16, and whose outer surface is formed of multiple sections.
The section of the upper part of the fastener 7 is provided with two opposing retainers, the spacing of which is equal to the width of the lower section of the cover 1; the second section 8 and the third section 12 have an equal diameter, which is nevertheless less than that of the first section, and are separated by an annular groove 11, the diameter of which is less than that of the second and third sections 8 and 12. The lower section of the fastener 7 is threaded and tightened concentrically by the locking key 17 and the lock nut 17, mounted in the lower part of the cylindrical hollow body 14, which is delimited by the limit section.
15, above which the sections 8 and 12 of the fastener 7 are mounted in the upper part of the cylindrical hollow body.
The cylinders 9 and 13, held by springs 10, are mounted in notches arranged in the upper part of the cylindrical hollow body 14, in two planes mutually parallel and perpendicular to the geometric axis of the hollow body. The end of the cylindrical hollow body 14 is threaded; on its net is fixed the stop bar 4, the useful end of which is inserted into the groove 2 of the cover 1.
The outer surface of the cylindrical hollow body 14 is smooth; its lower part, threaded, is connected to the split spring barrel 20, in the upper end of which is mounted the locking key 18. The split spring barrel is cylindrical, has a smooth surface and consists of an upper part internal thread, provided at its base with a retaining edge 19 and a constriction 21, a central part consisting of a split spring 22 and a cylindrical lower part 26 with internal thread, which holds the bar signaling 23, sealed to a collar 24 and to a support structure
28, held in place by a cap nut 29.
A notch is provided in the lower part of the supporting structure, in which the axial pad 31 sealed to the collar 32 fits; along the longitudinal axis of the support structure is an orifice in which are housed two support bearings 30, in which is inserted the support rod 34, the cylindrical upper part of which has a threaded end, on which are screwed the nuts 25 blocking the thrust washer 27. The lower part of the support rod 34 is provided with a drainage orifice and a thread used for fixing the core barrel
(not shown in the diagram).
The removable corer fixing mechanism offers three operating positions: transport (lowering the corer in the wellbore), service and transport
(removal of the core barrel from the drill string).
The adjustment of the fixing mechanism in the transport position (lowering of the core barrel) is carried out as follows: the core barrel is inserted into the drill string; the cap 1 is lifted, thereby freeing it from the stop bar 4; the fastener 7 is detached at the same time via the cylindrical pin 5; the second and third sections 8 and 12 move into position at the height of the two rows of cylinders 9 and 13, which are pushed inwards - the cylinders of the upper row withdraw in the annular groove 11 and those of the row lower in the empty space left by the third section 12. Simultaneously, the locking key is placed on the retaining edge 19. The cover 1 is then wedged by its own weight in the upper part of the fastener 7.
Thus, the fixing mechanism is ready for the descent into the wellbore, which is carried out either by gravitation or by using the drilling fluid under pressure. During the lowering, the cylinders 9 and 13 of the two rows cannot come out of the hollow body 14 because of the diameter of the drill string, specially studied. However, throughout the lowering operation, the third section 12 comes to bear against the lower row of cylinders.
If you are dealing with a borehole where water loss occurs (backdraft), you use a rod trap, properly adjusted. The rod mousetrap attaches to the cap 1, which is attached to the stop bar after removal of the clip 7. The assembly is then introduced into the corer, ready for descent into the well. As soon as the withdrawable core barrel passes into the service position, the mousetrap is detached and released automatically.
The transition from the fixing mechanism to the service position is carried out automatically. After reaching the enlarged annular section of the lower end of the drill string, the third section 12 spreads the cylinders 13 from the lower row, descends and locks them in position. The downward movement of the withdrawable core barrel continues until the cylinders 13 in the lower row touch the edge <EMI ID = 1.1>
its progression under the effect of the accumulated kinetic energy; the second section 8 pushes the cylinders 9 of the upper row out of the cylindrical hollow body 14 and locks them in position. Simultaneously, the locking key 18 exceeds the retaining edge 19 of the split spring barrel 20 and stops the progression of the fastener. The removable core barrel is thus in the service position.
If, during work, the core barrel is filled with witnesses or if the penetrated core jams in the core barrel, the latter stops its progress and lets itself be overtaken by the drill string.
Following this interruption, the split spring is compressed and the signaling rod closes the throttle
21, thereby causing a violent rise in the pressure of the drilling fluid. This phenomenon indicates that the core barrel work is finished and that it should be reassembled.
In the event of a rupture of the core, due to a tensile force of the drill string, the supporting rod 34 and the supporting structure 28 of the core barrel cause the split spring 22 to extend. This results in an extension of the split spring, as a result of which the end of the core barrel touches the rock, which relieves the tensile stress exerted on the core barrel.
The passage of the mechanism for fixing the withdrawable core barrel to the transport position is effected by releasing a mousetrap using a cable, which grips the cap 1 and pulls it in an upward movement. This progression of the cap 1 causes the positioning of the second section 8 and of the third section 12 of the fastener 7 at the height of the two rows of cylinders 9 and 13. The latter can then be withdrawn in the cylindrical hollow body 14. Simultaneously, the locking key 18 exceeds the retaining edge 19, thereby releasing the removable core barrel. On the surface, the assembly made up of the cap 1, the spindle 5 and the clip 7 makes it easy to detach the corer from the drill string.
