<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

"Hinged connection of two tubes"
The present invention relates to an articulated connection of two tubes which can be used as drive shafts in a motor vehicle body or in another mechanical construction.
There is known an articulated connection of two tubes, which is produced in the form of a universal joint and in which the pins which project outwards from a niece of cubic bearing are supported so as to be able to pivot in two fork-shaped parts, offset by 90o., each fork-shaped part has a clamp in which one end of the tube is embedded or welded.
The present invention aims to develop an articulated connection of two tubes so that the articulation parts are largely encapsulated by the tube ends and that a favorable force transmission, increasing the service life of the functional parts. the joint, takes place between the tube ends and the joint parts.
This problem is solved according to the invention by the fact that the ends of the tube on the articulation side are shaped in the form of a fork and are produced in the form of a receiving pocket with an opening on the front side for the insertion of a piece in made of
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
fork which receives a pin and by the fact that the fork-shaped part is fixed in the receiving pocket.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the receiving pocket formed by the end of the tube is supported on the adjacent faces of the fork-shaped part.
By producing the ends of the tube on the articulation side in the form of receiving pockets having an opening on the front side for the insertion of a piece in the form of a fork, the latter is fixed by a form connection in the end of tube shaped as a fork, the force transmission between the tube end and the fork-shaped part being effected by the faces of the fork-shaped part which are encapsulated by the tube end.
The pins supported so as to be able to pivot in the fork-shaped part are also encapsulated vis-à-vis the outside by the tube end so that a very closed articulation construction results.
The fork-shaped part can be fixed in the end of the tube produced in the form of a receiving pocket by a pin or by a bonding or gluing or welding.
Other details and particularities of the invention will emerge from the description given below, without implied limitation and with reference to the attached drawings.
Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a hinge with universal joint between two tubes.
FIG. 2 represents a view of FIG. 1,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
in the direction of arrow II.
FIG. 3 represents a view along line III-III of FIG. 2.
FIG. 4 represents a perspective view, in the disassembled state, of the individual parts of the articulated connection.
The tubes 1 and 2 are shaped in the form of a fork at their end on the articulation side and they have a receiving pocket 3 with opening 4 on the front side. The receiving pocket 3 is equipped with side wings 5 which, in cross section, have a U shape. In the receiving pocket 3 is inserted a fork-shaped part 6 which in a plan view is U shaped , the wings 7 and the part 8 connecting the wings being, in cross section, rectangular.
In the embodiment shown in Figure 4, the fork-shaped part 6 has a through bore 9 which is in alignment, after the insertion of the fork-shaped part 6 in the receiving pocket 4, with the through bores 10 of the receiving pocket 3. For fixing the fork-shaped part 6 in the receiving pocket, a pin 11 is introduced into the through bores 10 and 9 and it is fixed at the opposite ends of the receiving pocket so that movement of the fork-shaped part 6 in the receiving pocket 4 is prevented.
The fork-shaped part 6 can also be divided in the median plane, as shown in FIG. 4 by dashed lines.
The bores 12 of the fork-shaped part
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
have bearings 13 in which the pins 14 are supported so as to be able to pivot. The internal ends of the journals 14 are fixedly fitted in blind holes 15 of a cubic support piece 16.
It appears from Figures 1 and 2 that the articulation parts are almost completely encapsulated by the tube ends produced in the form of receiving pockets.
It should be understood that the present invention is in no way limited to the embodiment described above and that many modifications can be made thereto without departing from the scope of this patent.
